The Anabolic Diet is Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale’s solution to build muscle & lose fat. The basics are:

  • High protein, high fat & low carb from Monday to Friday.
  • High carbs, low protein & low fat on weekends.

The protein of choice is fatty, red meat. Fatty red meat is high in cholesterol and saturated fat which increases your testosterone levels. The absence of carbs for 5 consecutive days forces your body to use fat for energy.

I was looking on the anabolic diet website(metabolicdiet.com) and found Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale’s other program, The Radical Diet(http://www.metabolicdiet.com/promo/rdp.htm) which it says is a combination of his anabolic diet and a lower carb diet. This seems like it would be ideal for me as I have an excessive amount of weight to lose. I looked online and couldn’t really find any other information on it and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with it. Is it safe? Does it work?

The Anabolic Diet is a low carb diet Pablo. 5 days low carb, 2 days carb loading. I’m not familiar with the radical diet to be honest. But I don’t think it will be much different from the anabolic diet.

To lose weight you’ll need to burn more calories or eat less calories or both. You choose. The Anabolic Diet works for losing weight, but you need to eat less than you expend, always. Until you’ve reached your goals.

The question is not if the Anabolic Diet will work, as it will obviously, the question is: will you like it & apply it to the letter. If yes: yes you will lose weight.

Take a look at this post: The Anabolic Diet: is it for you?

I am very willing to follow it to the T, carbs have the same effect on me as the reader who sent you that email in the post you linked me to. Basically the Radical diet is based on the same ideas as the Anabolic diet except with meal replacements and supplements. I’ve never read anything good about meal replacement diets and was wondering if there was anything on this one. Perhaps I will just try the Anabolic diet. If I do end up trying the Radical diet, I will let you know how it goes =)

Pablo. I read somewhere the only difference between the Anabolic Solution/Metabolic Diet/etc.. & the Anabolic Diet, which is the original diet, are ads & supps.

I don’t like the idea of supplements & meal replacement. But feel free to experiment. My advice is to just give a try on the Anabolic Diet. It’s the original & simplest form and it’s proven to work.

Good luck with your goals Pablo, be sure to keep me updated, you can post a diet log in the forum if you want.

Mehdi, can I drink wine once a day in the anabolic diet?
The idea is that wine is healthy and tastes nice…not to get drunk…so…its like a half glass of wine after the lunch, you know…any problem with that?

Wine contains sugar Vassili. One glass of dry wine should be ok however (less than 3g/sugar).

I just did my first carb up meal after 8 days of no carbs and high protein & fat and I am falling asleep. This is how I used to feel all the time when I ate high carb meals, and now I can’t wait to get back to my high fat and high protein days. The reason I didn’t go to day 12 for my intro is becuase prior to starting this new way of eating, I was already quite low on carbs, <60g a day. But I just ate 150-170g of carbs and tomorrow I will have another 300, and then I’m back onto high fat and high protein for another 5 days. For anyone starting the diet and thinking about giving up during the first week - don’t do it! I felt like I couldn’t think or even keep my eyes open during days 2-3, but if you stick it out and get over the crash, you’ll feel like you have way more energy. I actually can’t wait to finish the loading, carbs make me feel sleepy and tired, can’t wait to eat some good ol’ fat. This is my schedule:

Mon-Sat low carb high, fat high protein

    Saturday night - high carbs

    Sunday day - high carbs

Sunday night - back to high fat, high protein

workouts are heavy fullbody strength training MWF, and Sunday right after carb up I do an strength-endurance workout that is absolutely crazy, desperately need the carbs for that one. i dont even think of the anabolic diet as a special diet, M thru F is just normal eating healthy fatty meats with lots of veggies, I just don’t like the carb up so much, but I recognize my body needs the carbs to add muscle. great site thanks for all the info

are fruits ok to eat during the 5 high pro/fat days?

  10. on 18 Mar 2008 at 6:04 amJay

@richard: From what i read its not a good idea to eat fruits on the weekdays because they are high in sugar / carbs…. so u should save it for the weekends.

I have a question..if I been using the Anabolic Diet for 14 weeks and I am thinking about adding one more day of carbup on the weekdays (wednesday)..should I cut bak one day of refeed on the weekend as in only carbing up Saturday?..or should I go ahead and carb up 3 days (wednesday, saturday& Sunday)..thank you

I noticed on the Anabolic Diet site that there are two diet programs. One for body builders and one for power lifters. What is the difference between a body builder and a power lifter?

So how long should i go without carbs for at the beginning? I read the book and i am somewhat confused. Should i not eat carbs for two weeks then do the 5 days no carbs, weekend carb up?
