I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I dont think big bench presses are too impressive anymore at least unless they have big poundages in everything else. And if they did they probably wouldnt be bragging about their bench :)

405 at 160 is still impressive.
Why are you squatting in the curl rack?

It's damn impressive to me. I don't care if he's never squatted in his life. I mean, say a guy is awesome at maths, does that not count unless he is also awesome at philosophy? Bizarre.

However what I am saying is more like this : If someone is going to set an example for me by teaching me mathematics, I'd hope he knows all forms of math. Trigonometry, geometry, algebra, calculus... rather than just geometry alone.

People who brag about their bench presses usually know little about real lifting. People who know about real lifting don't usually brag about their bench press.

I wasn't trying to say that 405 at 160 is not impressive though.

Haha African-American's. Africans evolved to be really tall and skinny to shed heat, which is why kenyans rock marathons.

Haha, yeah, I'm pretty sure my smugness about doing the other lifts would stop the minute others actually started training them and getting better numbers than me.

I guess the Pygmies of Central Africa missed the evolutionary boat then? Africa is the most genetically diverse continent on the planet -- there isn't just one set of physical characteristics that describes "Africans."

But he's not teaching - or setting an example. He's not a strength trainer. Why can't someone be really good at calculus and not trigonometry?
Some people want to be well-rounded, fine. Some want to specialise, fine.

And yeah, it's powerlifters who care about their 'big three' totals, but not everyone who lifts has to be a powerlifter.

He's just a regular guy with a big bench - good for him.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how this thread has gotten this long. It should not be surprising to people that there are regular gym rats that have been going at it for a while that can post decent numbers, especially on bench.

Why can't someone be really good at calculus and not trigonometry?

You sort of need to know trig to be able to do calculus. But that is neither here nor there.

Impressive, but some of them dont even looks muscly! Maybe there just strong.
Stats:
Bench: 97kg
Squat: 112kg
Deadlift: 117kg
OHP: 55kg
Dips: 40kg
Pull-ups: 22kg

The deadlift is not dead; size is dead without it.
