I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Well done. How long did it take you?

Since I passed BW on squats things have become extremely tough, there is no chance Im gonna get to 1.5xBW by the end of my first year of lifting.

Deadlifts however are going pretty good, it looks like hitting 2xBW may be possible if I work hard enough. That is 140kg by December 31. Just hope none of the gyms close for too long at christmas.

Im on 110kg for deads right now. Going for 140kg 2xBW

Im squatting 85kg just about. Need 105kg 1.5xBW

Rock on too Dave!

Wow, ricepower, those are good numbers! :) I first started SL 5x5 on 9 oct, though I only kept to a routine schedule of going to the gym from the 7th Nov!

Man, 1.5x BW DL was crap. I had to go alternate grip for all 5 and the last rep was hell!

Doesn't sound like crap to me. Sounds like exactly the way a heavy set of deadlifts should be.

Congratulations 22alpha. Remember most of us are in this for the long haul, strength training is a way of life. If I weren't doing this i think I would of killed someone or myself. It really is great to set goals.

Good luck with the rest of them.

I thought the same thing when I first did 5x5 at BW. I thought there was no way I was going to progress more. But you know what, I moved from BW (205 lbs) to 5x5 at 260 lbs without ever stalling. Keep lifting the weight and eating plenty, and you'll grow. Which is the point of all this work, right?

Keep going at it, keep it in your mind that you can do it, and then do it. When you start thinking "oh man, I'm about to try squatting 240 lbs." (or whatever), then tell yourself "hey, it's only 5 pounds more than I did 2 days ago, now do it."

Absolutely. If you're trying a new weight, that means you have successfully lifted a weight just 2.5kg lighter, 5x5. Reminding yourself of that does a lot to put things in perspective. Yes, it is a little heavier, and yes, it is going to make an already difficult lift more difficult, but you can at the very least be certain that you are not going to get stapled by the weight.
