I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

2 dips questions

1. On the 5x5 program, are the dips chest dips, tricep dips or alternating?

2. When doing chest dips and you lean forward, do you lift yourself leaning forward aswell, or do you straighten your torso again, and lean forward again at the start of each rep?

Thanks for any help.
Stats:
Bench: 97kg
Squat: 112kg
Deadlift: 117kg
OHP: 55kg
Dips: 40kg
Pull-ups: 22kg

The deadlift is not dead; size is dead without it.

I read the article. It doesnt say weather i should do chest or tricep dips, and weather i have to lean forward and straighten up again on lockout.

Aren't tricep dips done in a seated position with your hands on a bench behind you? :?
These are definitely chest dips as they are a replacement for the push up which is a chest/shoulder/arm assistance exercise.

Shoulder Issues. Don’t go too low. Stop when you break parallel, keep your chest up & torso upright. Try shoulder dislocations.
Torso Pain. Don’t let your shoulders roll forward & don’t let your torso shift forward too much. Keep your chest up.

Mehdi talks about not letting the torso shift forward and keeping the chest up, so that would suggest to me that you need to keep as upright as possible. He also says chest up at lock out, so I would assume you'd return to vertical if you have shifted forward a little on the way down.

I meant to say chest or tricep orientated dips. Chest you lean forward and tricep you stay straight while you lower yourself up and down.

Chest oriented imo. You must've seen in the article that the guy is leaning forward. But however you try, they will work your triceps very well.

I don't know about you, but I have to lean forward a bit to get my shoulders below my elbows... but that's probably just a lack of flexibility on my part.

When dipping, do your elbows point behind you or out to the side?

Mine are out to the side (30 degrees from the body) on a dip station with parallel bars, but I guess if you use a dip station where the bars are more of a 'V' then this might make them point wider, as your hands will be rotated more inwards.

This is what i meant by chest or tri dips. Because chest dips elbows point out and tri dips elbows point behind you.

just dip as you need. no need to get too critical. just dip to parallel in the most normal path/angle you feel is right. if you lean forward your tris will still get hit like mentioned above. if it gets too easy add weight. so again, dip in an angle that is comfortable to you.
