I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

On the last point I do not really agree.
I mean, once things stop working, you definitely need to change but that does not mean it needs to be done after some weeks already.
A lot of lifters would be better of if they staid with a program (no matter which one) for several months before changing anything major.
I prefer to be called 'H' ;)

I think our "variety" comes from adding weight.

*Ding* *ding*! We have a winner folks!

That's exactly correct. Adding weight continually will give your body plenty of variety. Unfortunately most people will read that article and think that they have to switch up every few weeks and then they will never be "that big guy in the gym".

But watch any of the Westside videos and you'll see a lot(!) of variety around the squat, goodmorning, bench, deadlift and reverse hyper.

I think in the context of that article it might be taken as strong guys do more than just curl, press and row.

But the article isn't aimed at those guys. It's aimed at the average shmuck in the gym. The guys who are truly strong know what needs to be done. Telling the average gym goer that he "needs variety" to build muscle is setting them up for failure.

You cannot compare the eliteFTS guys to the average guy at his local gym.

"setting them up for failure" correctamundo

There so many things wrong with this article.

"A smarter idea is to create a diet plan that contains" When did eating proper nutritional foods become a "diet?"
What about breakfast, pre-post workout nutrition. Muscular men eat more than 3 times a day why is that? Why should i eat more than 3 times a day? Wait you dont mention smaller portions do you? lol, no but you do mention to eat like 200lb man if i want to be one!

HOLY F*** "Maintaining a lean body weight means that you’re dedicating a significant portion of your day to eating." how much do you eat fatty? Even at 5-6 meals a day at 15mins a day thats only 1.5-2 hours if i take alonger to socialize at dinner. the other 14 hours a day?
Nice math foxnews thats no child left behind is working great for your country! That math would work if i sat in front of the TV watching foxnews eating cheesies.

Spend less time in the gym? lol ofmg.
Okay so your saying mr foxnews reporter that if instead of going on an eliptical for 90 mins a day everyday at a snails pace i should now go 45mins a day 3 times a week and "i'll become more muscular?
And i should eat afterwards to replenish my glycogen system and take a nap after my walk and meal. It helps my hormones, its science you see!

Intensity, compound exercises are not important enough to mention? Proper form? Squats! I mean i'm surprised no one mentioned that they didnt mention squats. Sad. If we didnt catch that imagine the others who dont know what squats are, how would they read into this article. All the article had to say is muscular men - Do squats and drink milk. End of story lol.

Goals no mention of that either? muscular men don't have goals i take it then? Or fat people reading about muscular people dont have goals ahh ha thats its.

No mention of muscular women either? Williams sisters have no muscles? Hummm interesting. I'm surprised it didnt get racial here since most of american sports teams that involve muscles (football, basketball) have alot african american males on them. Ronnie coleman for you body builders. Maybe the article should say why are muscular men black? just saying if the kettle is bla... lol nm. Anywho...

Wait No mention of strength? How do these muscular men get big?
They ate lots, slept lots, had less physical activity, with more variety (barbell curls instead of dumbbell curls)...
There not muscular at all there just fat and lazy.

How can you have muscles without strength and goals?
Squats! and milk!

"Cutting yourself short on nightly rest to stay up and watch late-night TV" Wtf i thought this article was about muscular people why would they stay up late to watch foxnews? oh wait its not for muscular people its for fat people who watch fox news.

This article is just stoopid. I read it thought it had a couple valid points, than common sense hit me.
Just a rant. Be careful what you read.

rejuvenile, I'm not sure if you're trolling or not, but I'll respond anyway.

Well a "diet" just means what you regularly eat =/ So I don't see what you're trying to get at here.

Also it says in the article that they eat more than 3 times a day because 3 meals a day won't be enough for the amount you need to eat in order to gain muscle.

Well preparing your food does take some time.

The other part of the quote is "is going to seriously impact your ability to grow muscle over time"
