I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

500lb deadlift

Postby RobCosimo on Fri Jun 19, 2009 7:01 am

I thought I'd start this, as 200kg (roughly 440lbs) isn't stupidly heavy, but it's still pretty heavy (to me at least!).

This one's more for us dirty foreign metric-using scum I guess, but I think it will be a cool milestone. I know there's a few on here who are pretty close to it, like mouse and holvoetn. My current 1rm is 185.

WHO'S IN?!

EDIT - Owing to recent activity in Belgium - thread title changed.

Go on then - nothing like a bit of Peer pressure.

(Sure you don't want to make it 227kg or 500lbs?)

We need to set some rules though:

movie needed as proof ?
Other things ?

No straps surely.

Chalk is allowed, straps no way.

I think movie is optional, I mean, if someone just says they pulled 200 when they actually didn't, it's their loss for being a douche, right? I'll definitely film my 200 though, i'll be stoked!

Chalk - yes
Straps - no
Belt - no

I'm with Rob
If you can't film it then I am happy to take anyone's word they've pulled 200.
I appreciate not everyone is in a position to film their lifts (either not having a camera or the gym not permitting it)
If you want to say you've done it when you really haven't then that's on you.

If you do film it - there is a requirement for a small celebratory dance - for Helm - see below:

helm wrote:wow mr. mouse, great deadlift. and a very nice roar! respect!
will you give us a video with a little happy dance after your 200kg deadlift? ;)

OK, spend some time yesterday researching how to tackle this (sorry, I AM a project manager so I need a plan of attack  )
My DL 1RM is 170kg, current 5RM is 157.5kg with 160kg achieved for 4 reps and 3 reps last 2 sessions.
So that's a 30kg gap from 170 to 200kg towards the end of the year.
Then there is also holidays and other periods where I will be away from any gym-like facility making August lost (10 days early August with boy scouts + 10 days end of August on holidays). Not sure what other periods will be added (probably first week of November too).

My plan:
Coan/Phillip routine: http://tsampa.org/training/scripts/coan ... _deadlift/
2 cycles to reach the target.

First one for moving from 157.5kg towards 190kg, I know I will not be able to complete that cycle for the full 10 weeks (remember, August is lost !).
I will do a new test of 1RM after that cycle to see where I am.

Then a second cycle from whatever 1RM I have at that moment towards ... 220kg !
Why 10% more ?
2 reasons:
1- To be sure there is a margin for whatever life throws at me.
2- Suppose I DO make it, it would be cool big-time 8)

So, the weeks I am only able to go to the gym once, Coan/Phillip Deadlift routine is what I will do.
Maybe with some added accessory exercises to make sure there is no imbalance with the muscles being worked by Coan/Phillip. Mainly thinking about bench, OHP and heavy ab-work.

The other days I will continue doing SL5x5 BUT not going for max on Deadlift nor Barbell row. Those parts will be sufficiently covered already.
I am still working out the details on the integration with 5x5 for this.

I am too. I just think that it is so worth making the extra effort to film 200kg though. :D

Yeah, it is. I'm especially interested to hear H's thoughts on the Coan/Phillip program, once he's done 2 cycles of that.

I may have missed on the Squat, and I may miss here as well...

But I'm game for a 200kg Deadlift.
