I also have a problem with getting snacks (hard to eat every 3 hours). I sit at a desk 8 hours a day. I used to eat bananas in between breakfast and lunch and before leaving work to go to the gym. Can you substitute a Whey protein shake for a snack/meal to cover for eating 6 meals a day?

Breakfast: Eggs
3 hrs: Whey shake
Lunch: Steak tip salad, extra steak
Whey shake 2 hours after lunch and 2 hours before heading to gym (including commute time)
Commute to Gym
Post WO: Whek shake
Dinner: probably beef and veggies

I can't really eat nuts as I tend to get acid reflux (or so my doctor told me several years ago). What do you guys think?

You can certainly eat a whey shake with olive oil or heavy whipping cream.
Other snacks:
* eggs
* cheese & ham & mayo
* dried meats
* full fat cheese

Protein shake with heavy cream is the best. I like to use natural cocoa for flavor(along with some sweetener because that stuff is bitter by itself).

I am not a fan of whey exclusive shakes. I like to get some egg protein in there, and some milk protein isolate as well, which is usually 80% casein and 20% whey. Whey is very quickly absorbedm which is what makes it great pre and post workout. I love a cup of coffee with vanilla whey before my workouts, and rarely miss it.

Hey Guys, what do you y'all think about the 1/2 Timed Carb Diet...http://www.ironaddicts.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=10313
'A 1/2 defined as LOW carbs taken in every day with cut-off at a certain point--usually 4-8 hours before bed.'

Do you think it is a plausible way for beginners to ease into the anabolic diet or even an alternative? I understand losing fat using this method would take longer than a full blown anabolic, but if it is plausible as an alternative, it would be great for beginners to get into strength training without worrying about the diet. As you say, everything works for beginners! Thanks for the site Quag.

This sounds similar to what I've been doing. I follow these simple rules and I think they provide a good start for a healthy and managable diet.
1. Eat every 3 hours. I do 3 big meals at 8, 12, 19 and three smaller meals at 10, 16, 21.
2. No sugar in drinks. drink a lot of water.
3. Reduce as much carbs as you can - no potatos, no bread. When you do eat carbs try to get them post workout.
4. Increase protein as much as you can - meat, eggs, tuna, nuts, whey.
5. Go loco on weekends. you need to throw your body a curve ball once in a while so that you metabolism doesn't adapt too much + you need carb ups so you won't end up in ketosis.
I follow these rules 90% of the time. I don't mess around with percentages and counting every calorie. I find that the most important thing is preperation. Go to the supermarket with these rules in mind and make sure you have all the things you need at home to be able to follow the diet you want to be on

Hey guys, I was looking to improve my PWO shake and I saw this: http://www.optimumnutrition.com/product ... p-252.html I know that Optimum makes good whey protein but would this suffice for a good PWO shake?

I don't like the ideas of 70g "fast carbs". Fast carbs are simple carbs. Whole carbs better & ealtier. My advice: get pure whey & add carbs yourself, like this: stronglifts.com/quick-easy-effective-post-workout-shakes/

^^lol. That is my current PWO shake. I was just going to see if I could better it. I can add pure dextrose in with my shake to replace the fruit.

Limit those carbs post workout if you are on the anabolic diet. The carb loads are where you should be replenishing your glycogen stores.

Pure dextrose is pure sugar, not very healthy. I'd avoid it.

creatine on it's own ingested will get broken down alot so you need carbs with it otherwise it's not ph nuetral so your stomache acids erodes most of it before it gets in your system.
Squat: 170kg x1
Dead lift: 200kg x1
Clean and Jerk: 100kg x1
Bench Press: 100kg x1

Anabolic Diet

Postby Geno » Sat Nov 10, 2007 10:36 pm

I have a few concerns on the Anabolic diet.

I'm 6'2" 240lb / 109kg. After calculating how many calories i should consume in a day I come up with 4320. I'm trying to drop from 240 to 180 while gaining some strength. I workout 6 days a week for 20-30 minutes. I'm worried that consuming this many calories will cause me to gain weight, even after taking off 500 calories. Am I worrying too much, or should I take off some more calories to drop weight?

Geno. First thing you need when switching to the Anabolic Diet, is forcing your body to use fat for energy instead of carbs. You should therefore cut calories only after 3-4 weeks on the diet (once you have adapted).
I'm not on the A.D. at this moment, but when I am I eat about 3000kcal daily to maintain a weight of 155lbs - 72kg. You could drop calories to 3500. The only risk involved with lowering your calorie intake, is that you could end up being hungry.
Btw: you can eat more on the Anabolic Diet than on another diet because of the fat burning mode you end up with.
