I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Any opinions on using a Swiss Ball with 5x5?

Hi All

I'd like to know what people think of incorporting the Swiss Ball into SOME of the 5x5. I personally have difficulty keeping the correct posture during Squats, even with an empty bar. I was thinking of using a Swiss Ball as it helps keeps undue pressure of my lower back (by keeping the ball between your back & a wall). I found that I was also able to get a greater degree of "Squat" in. However it would be difficult with a barbell, so i would have to use dumbells.

I have also found that using the Ball prevents unnecessary arching or bending of my back in a Seated Press ( a variant of the over head press), the bench press (using the ball instead of a bench), and to some extent the deadlift (again by placing the ball between your back & a wall).

What do people think? Mehdi? I don't want to lose the effectiveness of the 5x5, so any advice (especially backed up by research) would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards - tan

Swiss ball is useless. You want to get good at squats: squat more. On seated/bench press, the instability of the swiss ball will prevent you to lift heavy weights and makes the exercise unsafe. Last thing I want when benching 100k is lack of stability.
