I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

These sort of topics makes me laugh..

Don't squat deep.
Don't eat eggs.
Don't deadlift.
Don't do hiit, do long runs.
Milk makes you fat.
My friends neighbours sister got bad knees from squatting.

Squat deep.
Eat eggs.
Deadlift.
Don't do long runs, do hiit.
Milk makes you muscular.
My knees improved from squatting, and my legs look dead sexy! So there!

The single greatest benefit I have had from stronglifts so far is in my knees, both of which have dislocated several times. I used to joke to my friends about riding around in a mobility scooter in my old age, but I was quite serious. These days my knees are strong and I am confident in them. The muscles around them are well developed. I haven't had knee pain in months, and that used to be a regular experience.

Squats, and deep ones too, are to credit for that.

I have done deep squats and deep leg presses for 20 + years and the only thing I have noticed with my knees is that they do not crackle and pop anymore. :D

I do ride a bicycle for half the year and weight train (for power) half the year.
My best ever squat was 1 x 205 kg and leg press 3 x 320 kg.

Perhaps the only time when you MIGHT injure yourself is if you bounce at the bottom.

Reason states that you start with relatively low weights as you start doing deepest squats and thus strengthen the ligaments first; then you can hit the heavy workouts.

I have been having some problems recently as I deloaded to increase the depth of my squat. It was formerly just an inch below parallel but I have now got it 2-3 inches below. The problem is that to balance out this depth my torso has to lean forward a hell off a lot which has not made squatting incredibly back intensive. It feels like doing very heavy good mornings trying to get out of the hole, this pressure on back is preventing further progress.

After reading some of the stuff here it has made me realise that this severe forward lean is because of the low bar position. I have enjoyed low bar so far & felt it was totally logical but I am wondering if it might be better if I switched to a higher bar position so I am able to go deeper more easily with less likely hood of 'butt wink' and be able to kick start progress again.

Any opinions? Would fighting through the low bar technique & developing back strength be better?

Shoving the knees far out should minimize the forward lean. If that's not helping either, try widening the stance some more.
