I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Anyone else having durability problems with Chuck Taylors?

I have a pair of low ankle Chuck Taylor all-stars that I use as both as my weightlifting shoes and as my normal everyday shoes. It's only been 9 months and they're already beginning to fall apart.

Firstly I have wide feet and the Converses fit very tightly around the first knuckles of my toes. The exterior plastic mold around that area began to break almost immediately. Now there are also small holes in the fabric around that area. The fabric underneath the foot has also begun to break and bunch up.

Anyone else have the same problem with their Chuck's? I wonder if the bargain brand Chuck one-stars sold at Target will have comparable durability.

I use indoor soccer (futsal) shoes, they have a flat sole and a very slight heel, and they are made for soccer so very durable, have lasted me about two years now.... I will probably buy em again when this one falls apart.

9 months for chucks that are worn as everyday shoes is not bad in my experience

Hmm okay. I was just surprised at how quickly the Chucks wore out. I had exclusively worn sneakers as my everyday shoes previous to buying this first pair of Chucks. I can't remember exactly how long, but sneakers would usually last much longer than 9 months.

I just bought a pair of Chuck-like shoes of the Mossimo Supply Co. brand at Target yesterday. They were about $15, which was cheaper than the Converse One-Star shoes at Target for $25, and certainly cheaper than Converse All-Star shoes found elsewhere for ~$30-$40. We'll see how long these last!

Yeah Chucks don't last long!
I walked to work the other week in mine and ended up with two massive blisters on both heals, total killer!
They're pretty crappy really, but still have two pairs :)

I've had my Chucks for well over a year and they are still holding up very nicely. This week I just noticed a slight rip on the outside of the foot where the rubber sole hits the canvas part, on both sides. They've lasted a lot longer than I thought they would - I use them only at the gym, never for walking around, that's probably why they lasted so long.

The Mossimo Supply Co. shoes are holding up pretty well so far. I am using them as my everyday shoes as well as my gym shoes. I think the rubber sides my old pair of Chucks started to separate from the canvas within like a month. Not a problem yet with the Mossimo Supply Co. shoes.

The one complaint I would have with the MSC shoes is that they lack traction. The sole grip is pretty crappy. It's not noticeable on rough surfaces like pavement and carpet, but you start to feel a loss of traction on smooth surfaces (bathrooms, malls, etc). I probably shouldn't wear these shoes in the winter!

second the recommendation for indoor soccer shoes... my sambas always last 3-4 years before having to replace them, and im fairly rough on them.

Didn't like the way Chucks made my feet look. (BIGGER! Size 13 foot here) I had these driving shoes laying around. They have little cushioning and a pretty low heel. They work for me. 'bout $85. I wear them outside the gym too. Had them a couple of years. No durability issues yet.
