I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I like the idea of dropping a set when you get 5/5/5/5/4 a couple of workouts in a row and then increasing weight until you get 5/5/5/4 for a couple of workouts and then dropping another set. You're deloading but not by taking weight off the bar but rather your total volume.

have you thought about giving the 5/3/1 program a shot? it is a combination of sets of 5, 3 and 1. i like it so far.

Going to give the 5/3/1 a try out after my holiday and week away with work.
I've got 5 weeks to give it a try before possibly being away again - the program seems to fit 5 weeks nicely.
Then when i've a free run of 8 straight weeks I want to try out Korte's 3x3.

Currently I'm doing Texas Method.

Was doing for this first 4 weeks:

  • M - Squat 5x5 / Bench 5x5 / Rows 5x5
  • W - Front Squat 3x3 / Seated Press 3x3 / Deadlift 1x5
  • F - Squat 1x5 / Bench 1x5 / Rows 1x5

Now doing:

  • M - Squat 5x5 / Bench 5x5 / Rows 5x5
  • W - Squat 2x5 / Seated Press 3x3 / Deadlift 1x5
  • F - Speed Squat 10x2 / Speed Bench 8x3 / Speed Rows 8x3 (all with bands)

I don't like Front Squats and dropped them for now. With regards to the speed work with bands, I have heard that you can get pretty sore using bands but I did pretty good. I need to work on the initial part of the lift (where the bands would be applying less stress) because they weren't that difficult to lock out. Seems like I was able to get better results on the following high volume / high intensity M.
