I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

H, I've always done pull ups regardless of what other back exercises I'm doing so there is definitely a correlation.I've taken to chins instead of pull ups because now pull ups hurt my shoulder. I'm very biased but I don't think it's really possible to get a strong back without doing pulls or chins.

I've really big on pull ups too ...as despite what I did, my back didn't grow until I started doing them regularly.

Its funny that you stay away from pulls due to your shoulder...since I have stayed away from chin ups for a bit now since my lower left bicep has some tendonitis and chinups are the worse thing to make it flare up.

James,

When you do your BBRs...do you use a pronated or supenated grip?

I use the traditional overhand grip for my rows (that would be pronated). I see people doing it the other way but I think that works bi's more. Honestly though I've not ever tried it the other way.

Thanks -- trying to study up on the form before I add these in. Can't say I'm looking forward to them but they seem like a necessity for back development/strength.

Monday 8/17

Felt dizzy this morning for some reason. Not sure if it was my vertigo kicking in again or if it was simply because I didn't wear my glasses this morning. This carried on into my workout and it sucked.

Squats: Worked to 5*325. PR. These were tough. I did them enclosed in the power rack because I was still dizzy and not feeling 100%.

Bench: Worked to 5*260.

BBR: Worked to 5*230.

GHR: 2*8. These are getting a bit easier but I was feeling like crap.

Leg curls: 2*8. Again, I was just feeling dizzy and crappy.

Yuck. I got my squats but I hate working out when I feel like this.

Hope you are feeling better now James. Still, 5 * 325 squats while not feeling your best is amazing. Nice work!

Big PR on the squat, nice. I'm looking forward to seeing your 5/3/1 progress. I've heard really good things about that program.

weds 8/19

Deadlift. Worked to 1*455. PR. I wanted to see how close I could get to 500 today so I warmed up with 245, 315, 425 (of which I only got 4), then 455. Not bad and only 50 lbs more to my goal.

Step - ups: Tried these out today. 5*5 @135. I like these and am anxious to see what's sore on me tomorrow.

Incline bench: Worked to 5*225.

GHR's: 3*5. I find that I can actually lower myself most of the way to the floor now which is a huge improvement over when I first started these.

I didn't do leg curls as I was running low on time and because of my heavy deads and decent GHR's.

You may notice that I've been a bit crazy on Weds with trying different things. I'm doing a quick search for assistance work as I get into my next program in two weeks.

I also gained 4 lbs since I last weight myself. I'm not too concerned as my pants still fit.

Another solid workout, James. I'm off to the gym and needed some inspiration and your log usually does it for me!
