So, do you like the belt? Does it enable you to contract your core more forcefully?

Yes, the fractional plates (two-1/4, two-1/2, two-3/4, and two-1 lb plates) are for the press. I can do 70, but not 75...so maybe 70.5, then 71 lb, then on up?

No contraction, the belt increases your inner abdominal pressure. It just allows you to have something to "push" against, giving more confidence maybe. You take a big breath, adjust the belt till snug, let the air out and re-adjust one hole tighter. When you take a big breath your core feels really tight, because you are being constricted. The belt is 4 inches wide all around and like one half inch thick, so it is really uncomfortable. Only use it for heavy lifts, never to warm up, then off it comes.

The belt is NO replacement for core work though. :D Have to do core work every day!

Hey Barry,

Nice job on the DL PR!

When do the fractional plates come in? Are you going to let “x” use them too? :P

I had the same issues with OHP – I was stuck and had to deload three times so I went to microloading. It was slow going but it’s definitely helped me.

Looking forward to seeing if they help you too and continuing to watch your progress.

P.S. I enjoy your sense of humor!

They will be delivered by UPS on Monday Aug 10, next Monday. Like yours, they are cute color-coded plates in their own little discrete carry bag. They are from APT Pro Weight Lifting Gear, but purchased from amazon.com

I don't have to let X use them, she takes what ever she wants. :D

I think she has her eye on my new Inzer weight lifting belt...

I lay on my back, sit up and grab the smith machine bar, stiffin my body, and pivot on my heels.

It's the only way I know how to do them.

Something I am trying is basically going from easiest position to most difficult. This has the same effect of adding weights to your lifts weekly. Try this:
  1. Body @ 45degree angle to the ground, feet flat. When you can do 15 in the first set go to...
  2. Body @ 45degree angle to the ground, legs straight in front of you. When you can do 15 in the first set go to...
  3. Body flat on ground, feet flat so that when your chest hits the bar your knees form a 90 degree angle. When you can do 15 in the first set go to...
  4. Body flat, legs stright out (as you do now). When you can do 15 in the first set go to...
  5. Body flat, feet elevated so that when your chest hits the bar you are horizontal. When you can do 15 in the first set go to...
  6. Weighted IR or Pull ups.

That's the plan i've hit. I'm now at step 2.

I could be so lucky as to get a young woman for my massage. She'll probably be in her 40's and able to squat 400# and have it be 1.5x her body weight.

Great PR on the deadlift!

OK, set two PRs tonight, but I will only claim one, and for me it is a big one. I will explain later...

SQ
45 x 5
95 x 5
130 5 x 5

OHP
45 x 5
71 5 x 5

This is the PR I will not claim.

I have been in this 70 lb 5 x 5 with perfect form, then 75 lb stall. Got my micro-plates now, and added two 0.5 pound plates. I was able to do all 5 sets of 5 reps with perfect form. I will admit I did have to fight a little for the last rep on the last set.

DL
135 x 5
185 x 5
New PR !!! 185 pounds of iron!

This took a lot out of me! But I did it, and it was clean. :D

Pull Up Negs
3 x 3 all negatives

Prone Bridges
3 x 40 sec.

Great workout tonight! Full of energy and power.
