I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Happy belated Anniversary to you and X. 25 years is awesome and it's so very cool that you guys train together. Nice to see that X is keeping you in line.

Big congrats on the Press PR. Gotta love those micro-plates. I particularly like using them next to the 45's...I do that sometimes just to irk the guys.

Friday Sept 18 | Workout 'A'

SQ
45 1 x 10
95 1 x 5
125 3 x 5
135 1 x 5
115 1 x 5
95 1 x 5
Tonight I went for "volume" over "weight" to keep it fresh. :)

BP
45 1 x 10
85 1 x 5
115 3 x 5
80 1 x 20
Twenty reps is twenty reps! Granted 80 pounds is not that heavy, but move it with good form (X is always watching) and you do a lot of work. Nuff said.

I also got a few reps of deadlifting here when X had a total failure on her last rep and tried to crush her chest with a heavy bar.

BBR
45 1 x 5
65 5 x 5
Bernice, I mean X, has hated IRs as much as I do. So when she said we were doing barbell rows, I was fully on board. I need to work on my form on this, as it is really easy to mess it up turning it into a psudo-deadlift/good morning.

Push Ups
0 x 0
My shoulders were still hurting from the 75 pound 5 x 5 OHP. Poo on the push ups, I hate them too.

Rev Crunch 3 x 15

20 is alot of reps. I imagine it gets the heart pumping! Keep cranking away at the push ups. They'll get easier the more you do.

Monday Sept 21 | Workout B

SQ
45 1 x 5
95 1 x 5
135 3 x 5
Put the big wheels back on. :)

OHP
45 1 x 5
75 3 x 5
No drama, good solid effort. :D

DL
135 1 x 5 warm up
190 1 x 4
After the 3ed rep I had to switch to a mixed grip. Pulled one more off the floor, and that was it. Will try 190 again on Friday.

Pull Ups
As an act of solidarity with X, I used the blasted Nautilus assist machine. Man I hate that machine! The grips are thick and then covered in this mushy foam. Did not count the reps.

Prone Bridges 3 x 40 sec.

80 1 x 20

 Well, that does NOT sound like fun. Great job on getting it done!
And you have completely kicked my butt on the DL! As soon as my back is better, will have to chase you.

BTW, nice job saving X from getting squashed.

Wednesday September 23 | Workout 'A' | Cycle 2

SQ
45 1 x 10
95 1 x 5
135 1 x 5
140 3 x 5
I was watching a few Rippetoe videos on UTube.
It appears I have been doing my squat wrong. I always look up, descend into the hole, then still looking up I make a big chest and push hard to stand up. This I find out is not correct. Looking down at the wall socket, I imagine ol' Ripp pushing on my lower back (hip) and I push (hip drive). Using technique alone the 140 felt lighter.

BP
45 1 x 10
75 1 x 5
120 1 x 5
105 5 x 5 Super fast
I read too much. I was reading an article by TMUSCLE bodybuilding coach Christian Thibaudeau on "How To Train". He was pushing the concept to "look at periodization for what it is: a general guideline". The 120, a weight I have done before 5x5 felt heavy; dropped it to 105 and went for all the bar speed I could get.

BBR (Bent over Barbell Rows)
45 1 x 5
70 3 x 10
I blame X for this, she does not read enough. We were doing these completely bent over with our back parallel to the floor, and bringing the bar up to our chest/breast. This is how Glenn Pendlay looks when he is doing them or StrongLifts. Glenn is very strong and could probably contort his body into any position and lift heavy; we can't. We need to read more and view videos before we get hurt. We could ask one of the personal trainers, they all have nice hair cuts, especially the men, but they only know the machines.

Push Ups
4, 2, -
The pox on push ups. My parents gave me bad push up genes. My shoulders do not bend like that. It is simply not my fault.

HAHA! That made my evening.

The trainers at my gym don't even have nice haircuts!! :? That's why I never ask them for advice

Friday September 25 | Workout 'B' | Cycle 2

SQ
45 1x5
95 1x5
140 1x5
145 3x5
Digging that hip drive!

OHP
45 1x5
75 3x5 (last set I did 6, was trying for 8 to 10.)

DL
135 1x5
190 1x3
140 1x9 (I can't count, X can; it should have been 10.)

X declared that it was Friday, a low energy day, and we should go.

Pull Ups (at home)
With the key lime pie colored rubber band around my knee, did 3 sets of 10 pull ups with a w-i-d-e grip.

Good work out. The gym (Bally's) was almost empty. Some guy who was built like a back hoe was quietly moving many 45 pound plates on the end of a oly bar.

Good Friday workout Barry. Squats are moving right along. Every time I watch the Rippetoe vid, I pick up something else I am not doing quite right

How were the pull ups w/the band? I have been considering buying some so I can 'grease the pull up groove" at home. Which ones did you get and do you know how much assistance they provide (like in lbs)? Did you use them on a pull up bar in your doorway?

Hope you and X have a great weekend!

Monday September 28 | Workout A | Cycle 2

SQ
45 1 x 10
95 1x5
145 3x5

BP
45 1x10 really really fast, make the rotation collars rattle.
75 1x5 again working on speed
115 3x5
80 1x10 fast
Working on bar speed. The quicker you accelerate the bar at a given weight, the more power you produce, and the more work you perform. Or something like that - I read too much junk on the internet.

BBR
45 1x5
75 3x5
Still working on form on the bent over barbell rows. Was using the deadlift platform, going to move to the power cage next time.

GM
45 3x5
First time doing the good mornings. My form needs improvement; X is spot on. A bonus is the way X sticks her cute little butt out while doing them.
