I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

10/15

Wifes finger healing well (but looks terrible with all those stitches sticking out). I am still not rested and can really tell when I work out. Also out of sync eating wise. Not geting enough protein. Anyway...

Squat
220 3X5(time constraint) It was one of those cold rainy mornings and I unintentionally loaded the bar at 220 instead of 215 (I was still asleep). No biggie. I am continuing to work on depth. Not 100% sure I was getting full depth before, but I am now  . Squats were really hard today. It was GOOD!

OHP
110 5x5 Deload from 120. Heavy! I felt a little weak today throughout. Tuesday felt the same way. That's why I feel I am not getting enough to eat/rest.

DL
265 1X5 Still feeling better about my form. A little nervous everytine I do this but I am getting over it. I went through a simillar phase in my squat at bodweight the first pass through. For some reason I want to stand up through my hips first. Caught myself doing this on the third rep a little. I really have to concentrate on straightening my knees first. Oh yea, still chasing the barbell :)

No time for anything else. I'll try some pull ups tonight. I'll need some more roller work too. DOMS already!

Hi Barry -
Great to see that you are recovering well from the squat damage, and I feel you on worrying about DL. I had a bit of a moment the other day, where I think I squatted a bit wrong, then went to the DL - after the first 5 I stood up and felt .. oh-oh, like I was carrying a big flat book tucked into my pants at the back, like my entire back muscles were locked up. Came away okay tho.
I also get the morning fuzzys with weight calculation, I always see to err Under Tho!
Are you having trouble with food planning /early bedtimes?

Thanks for checking in DF. Rest is difficult sometimes cause life tends to get in the way. I think everyone experiences that and it's not 100% under our control. Stuff happens!

Meal planning and protein consumption are a different story though. I am 100% in control over what I eat. No excuses, I need to clean up my diet. I tend to break the "carbs ONLY after workout" rule more than I should. Plus I am a big guy. It's difficult to get in over 200g of protein a day. To help with this, I'm giving fitday a go to measure everything. I put in my food comsumption the other day and was shocked how little protein I was actually getting! If I drop the bad stuff I eat, replace it with good stuff and protein, I'll get much getter results. Old habits are hard to break.

PM workout today. Looking forward to it after being away for the weekend!

10/19
Later afternoon workout as planned

Squat
225 5X5 Feeling really heavy again. Having to watch the GM coming out of the hole from here on.

That was it except for stretching. Had to leave. Too many people at the gym. Now I remeber why I workout at 6:30AM. I tried the ab wheel for the "fun" of it. I need to do this some more. The damn thing nearly killed me!

10/21
Feeling alot of fatigue before I even got to the gym. Had a good nights rest so I am not sure what's going on.

Squat
230 4,2,1 Told you Iwas tired

Bench
175 5,5,4 Last rep was absolute torture

Inv Row 10,10,10

Dips 8,8,6 These are getting better, thought I would get 9 on the first set but could not complete it.

Stretching. Laid off abs for times sake but will hit them tonight

Need to deload bench. I need to work on my diet. Fitday is showing some problems. Too many carbs not enough protein. Dr says my cholesterol is too high.

You're at that stage where it doesn't come as easy any more. You'll have increasing numbers of days when you struggle but that's all part of the journey.

OH! That time has come and gone. I could barely get out of the bed Sat AM! I am still a little sore. I really need to stick with this (buy one to use at home). It's one hell of an ab work out. Does damage QUICK!

I have to agree with that. Mentally I am prepared for it to be really hard from here out and to have bad days. I'll just have to move on to the next workout and not let it bother me.

The big thing is, I am getting my diet cleaned up via fitday. I found I am really lacking protein. Once that is order I should begin to see better progression and increases. That's what happens when you guess instead of logging everything. I should listen to Mehdi's advice in the ebook! I need to start measuring myself for gains. Doubt I'll get fat calipers as I am not really too concerned about it. If I do everything else right, that should take care of itself.

This is why I see all of the intermediate and advanced lifters on here say :"Follow the F###ing program!" I think I get it now...

I hear you. That's why I made my own set ;)
See here: http://www.rosstraining.com/articles/wheel.html

Further down the line this will allow to do other exercises which you can not do with the classical ab-wheel.
T-rollout is something I am dreaming of being capable to do ... <sigh>
First the normal full roll-out, then I'll see about the T-rollouts ;)

I may construct a set of those myself, but it will be a while before I would even attempt the full rollout. A worthy end of year goal would be three sets of 10 kneeling. Then maybe a full rollout by June 2010? 8) We'll see!

.
How about making one using that "Ball" from a Dyson vacuum?

That way you could roll around corners, roll to the left, roll to the right, and chase the dog or cat around and still get ab-stonishing results that are gar-ran-teed to give you a six or twelve pack by New Year's Day.

Boo-ya!

10/23
Did not sleep enough. All of this cooking and preparation of food is taking some getting used to. I will try to make a weeks worth of food this weekend so I don't have to work so hard on this every night. Getting close to my proteing goal but still not hitting it. I am def closer than I was before.

Squat 230 2,1 Could not get loose enough this morning and legs felt shaky. Did my usual warm up progression and never felt right. Tried a couple of reps and bailed.

OHP 115 3X5 Was running out of time. I will do 5X5 next B workout with the same weight. These were not bad at all. Last rep of third set was pretty hard.

DL 275 1X5 FINALLY! This is the weight I injured my back pulling. Nice to be able to do this one. Oh yea, I am ordering chalk today.

Pull ups...GTG tonight and Sunday. I've let these slip too long. Working on shopping list for ab roller too.

Weird squat issue needs to go. Maybe some of it's rest or perhaps the change of diet? Not sure but I need to sort this out by Monday's A workout. Will probably work alot on flexibility this weekend. Felt really tight and uncomfortable in the hole last two workouts.

Give squats one more time and if no go it may be time for a hard deload. No shame in that. :)
