I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Good of you not to go too fast when you feel the weight is 'too easy'. Hard times will come later ;)

Deadlift: nothing wrong using mixed grip, just make sure to use overhand/pronated grip as much as possible during warm-ups and try to alternate the mixed grip as of a certain point (typically though the dominant hand will have to be supinated for the max lift).
To give you an idea: up to 100kg/120kg I use overhand, as of 140kg I use mixed grip.
I prefer to be called 'H' ;)

6/16
No lifts today. Did off day workout.

6/17

Squat 205lbs - Went well, 3rd set was the hardest. This is really getting hard as I approach body weight!

Bench 145lbs - Getting harder, think it will be a week or two before I come close to stalling though. This is the only lift I have not stalled on. I must have accidentaly doubled up on the same weight a couple of weeks. This seems low when I look at the spreadsheet. I stopped using it after about week 9.

Inv Row - I said I would try with feet on a bench this week. Could not touch the bar with my chest on ANY rep. Attempted 3 sets of five, got close to touching 2-3 reps by pulling hard enough to get some momentum. Reminds me of pull ups. I can do 10 pull ups if I only go 3/4 the way up, but only 7 real pull ups on a good day.

Push ups 27,19,12 I believe the heavier bench plus missing these a couple of times in the past two weeks affected my numbers here.

Ab work tonight at home.

6/20

Squat 215lbs
Accidentally loaded the bar wrong. This was supposed to be 210lbs. I just wasn't paying attention! Did not notice until the 3rd set. I was wondering why I was having difficulty getting below parrallel. So, I was able to complete all sets but did not get low enough on all reps. I'll be repeating this weight.

OHP 110 2X5
105 3X5
Form began to suffer on last couple reps of second set. Deloaded 5lbs to finish. I'll try to progress this way until I get fractional plates.

DL 245
1X5

Pull ups/Chins
Frustrating, my right forearm arm STILL hurts bad enough I cannot do these. Hurts a little on OHP too but not enought to stop me.

Prone Bridge
3X60 sec. Added elevated limbs, right arm 15sec, L arm 15sec, R leg 15sec and L leg 15 sec for the duration. This is much more difficult.

Squat - Decided to go for 220 lbs/100kg (my approx bodyweight). Started with empty bar, then 95lbs 1X5, 135lbs 1X5, 185lbs 1X3 then 220lbs. First rep at 220 was solid all the way past parallel. Slow coming up out of the hole but I did it! :D Second rep failed about halfway out of the hole. So...now that I got that out of my system, I can get back with the program. Next workout 215lbs 5X5.

Bench 150lbs 5X5
Prolly my last attempt without being in the squat cage or without a spotter. No problems with form but the last couple reps on set 5 were difficult.

Inv Row
Still trying feet on a bench, 5 reps. Came close to touching on the first two each set.

P.ups
30,21,11

Rev Crunch
3X12 w/17.5lbs

Off day workout

6/25
Squat 215lbs 5,5,3,5,5
Third set was part mental failure and too little rest after my second set. My form was much better than my last attempt at this weight. I was able to hit below parallel on most reps. Should get 5X5 on next workout.

OHP 110lbs 5,5,3 then 105lbs 5,5
I am still progressing using this method. Three more reps at 110 than last workout before my form began to disintegrate.

DL 255 1X3
I would not call this a grip failure but I had a sharp burning sensation in my left hand on the third rep. I stopped because of this. Ended up being a broken blood vessel. Not a problem. Should have kept going.

Pull ups
Still waiting for arm to heal. This is also being aggravated by the OHP. I may add these to one of my off days to work through it. Pull ups are hard, but I was making progress. I am not going to get any better at them by not doing them!

Take care of yourself.
Little injuries like that, if not properly handled, can result in extended periods watching from the side ...

I hear you...I would not want to do that. I'm hoping I can do these the day after my "B" workout as part of my off day work. Like I said, I believe the weight on OHP is part of the issue. 110lbs is HARD! I don't feel pain while performing the OHP, but I feel it coming on when I rest between sets. I don't feel it happening on my Dead lift.

I may try changing to a hammer grip or reg pull up grip. I won't be able to do as many but that may take some of the stress off of that part of the arm.

Thanks for reading and the concern!

No workout...sort of. Spent the day chainsawing trees that blew down in a recent storm.

6/29
Squats
215lbs 5X5 Good depth on all reps! :D From the feel of this today, 220 is going to be HARD

Bench
155lbs 5X5 First time benching in the squat rack. Kinda messed with my form a little. Occassionally hit the pins but if I set them lower, they would be of no use. I got better by the 4th and 5th set. On to 160lbs.

Out of time needed to got to work. Try to squeeze in push ups and crunches tonight at home. I need to find way to do inv rows at home too.

Don't make the mental mistake thinking this means you will not make it next time.
You never know until you really fail. Until then, give it all you got ;)

6/30
Mountain biking with son and a friend. 2+hrs. I do not do as much biking as I did prior to SL so I was interested to see how the program has affected my performance. This has helped my strength in my upper body most. It was nice not to have my arms get tired before my legs. Leg strength seemed better than usual too but not as big a diff as upper body. This should change dramatically in the next month or two as my squat progresses beyond BW.

Will resume B workout after rest a day!

6/30=first 5X5 BW Squat attempt@100kg/220lbs...I will be ready!

Tss tss ... you still haven't learned to play the mental game.
6/30: think you will MAKE it. Only IF you fail, which is not known right now, it became an attempt ;)

Squat-220lb 5,2,3 could not get out of the hole on 4th rep. Dpeth was decent on all the opther reps. I'll get this next workout.
OHP-110lb 5X5 Felt good to finally lift this weight 5X5 with decent form.
DL-255lbs 1X5 Practiced supinated grip on warm ups. Grip was still and issue on the 1X5 but I managed to hold on.
Pull ups-Same problem with my arm, but it took a few reps before I felt it instead of one.
Prone Bridge-3x60sec

"H" I hear what you are saying. I'm just getting so I am not really "nervous" before I lift. This has become a little bit of an issue as the weight got higher/more difficult. RIght now I am trying to master a more neutral mindset because you are right, I don't know what is going to happen. I've made the mistake of thinking just because I feel great I will have a great workout. The reverse has also proven true, I 've pushed myself to go workout when I felt like crap and had some of my better workouts.

I realize I need to think "success".

I'm Back. Took a short vacation for the forth and had to make a road trip for biz early this week. Now, Back to the IRON!

Squat
220lbs 5,2 stuck in the hole on 3rd rep. But the first set and the two I completed were rock solid! I deloaded to 215lbs to finish 5,5,5 What a difference the 5lbs makes!

Bench
160lbs 5,5,5,5,4 Not even sure I'd count the forth one. Form was iffy. Eyes buldging, bar shaking.

Inv Row
3X5 Feet on Bench. This one is getting there. Actually felt my shirt touch on the first rep of each set!

Dropping Push ups and adding Dips for a change
7,5,5 Much harder than push ups but I liked them.

Rev Crunch
3X12 no counter weight.

All in all this was a very good workout. Even though I did not get all my reps at the target weights I really felt good. All excercises are now taking an all out effort mentally and physically. I no longer want to go do another set of "something" when I finish my 5X5. I am exhausted! Eat, Rest...DO IT AGAIN!

Squat: don't deload when you miss a rep. Finish the sets as good as you can.
Bench: good attitude ! Form is important (hence why I deloaded from 75kg down to 60kg to start over  )
IR: it should touch on every rep ;)

Have a good rest, eat plenty (good stuff) and you'll be ready for the next time 8)

I felt the same way, on one of my last reps, wasted, eyes almost closed, then bug eyed, pushing with sheer will, I got the bar up and racked. my wife says: "remember to breath" Breath?! I was just trying to keep my head from exploding!
