I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Just wanting to know if it is a good idea to wear a weight belt to keep back straight when doing squats and deadlifts?

Chief

Lots of thoughts about using a belt or not - personally I don't wear one.
Work on your core strength and flexibility will go a long way to helping with the lifts.
If you have a belt, then maybe use it for heavy singles to give you a bit of extra help.

But - a belt won't necessarily 'keep your back straight' if you don't have the flexibility in the first place.

Mouse,

Would a belt help an injured back? I have a vertebrae with an excessive range of motion and that puts a lot of strain on the vertebrae below. I know that I can work on my core to improve the situation, but I want to keep lifting in the mean time. Is it worth getting a belt to assist until my core strengthens or lift less and just focus on core strength?
