I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

My lower back has been bothering me for a few weeks. I've also been feeling mildly sick.

Hyper-extensions
3x5 @ BW
2x5 @ 20 kg
* These felt great. Just what I needed

Bench
3x5 @ 60 kg
1/- @ 70 kg
* Just didn't feel that strong today

Chins
3/2/2/2
* Holy crap! Holy crap! I did three!!!!
* Sure, they're not from a dead hang but what an improvement! The change today was I used a small step at the start. At my height, I can easily reach the handles but the step means I have less of a jump at the start, which puts less strain on my elbow.

Still feel a bit ill/weak. Hope to get over it this week.

mjh wrote:I've also had bad ecxema when in warm climates. Often in the crook of my elbow, or on my fingers. Doesn't help that it is aggravated by water... are you supposed to not wash? The hands never cleared up 100% until I got some prescription steroid ointment.

Good to see you back in the gym... until the next business trip!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets this! I usually get it in the crook of my elbow and behind the knee in the summer. This time it was on the inside of my legs and all the way down my calves and all over the inside of my arms. Looked terrible.

The doctor gave me a huge pile of this wax and the steroid creme. After two days I'm cured and I now have a stash of staff that should last me... the next 5 years.

nice work on the chins B. I should really test myself without the band one of these days. You still going to use bands now and then, or is it all you now?

The sense of achievement you get when you improve in the BW exercises is a bit different to the barbell lifts, don't you think? I'm getting a big buzz out of having my modest number of push up reps climb.

Chins
3/2/2/2
* Holy crap! Holy crap! I did three!!!!

It is a very nice feeling, isn't it? There are these three exercises which have something quite elementary feeling about them - the deadlift, OHP & the chins.

Get fighting fit soon.

Bluestreak's company is booming at the moment, so he's away from the forums focusing on his work for now. He's still working out, and I'm sure we'll here from him again.

Been a while since my last post.

I haven't trained much over the last week and prior to that my effort was dropping off. Aside from being busy in work/life, I haven't being feeling well. Often feel tired.

In happier news, my daughter starts school on the 9th. From then on, my routine changes. I'll have to switch to evening and a weekend session. No more early mornings. But we'll have to wait and see.

Friday, 02 Oct 09

Squats
1x4 @ 20 kg
1x5 @ 40 kg
3x3 @ 60 kg
1x3 @ 80 kg
1x2 @ 100 kg
* Not bad, all considering

Bench
1x4 @ 20 kg
2x5 @ 40 kg
5/3/2 @ 60 kg
* Yeah, I can tell I've been away for a while. Last sets, I intentionally stopped with the bar on my chest

Sit ups
10/10
* Just for fun. Haven't done these in ages. Abs definetly are stronger then they were pre-SL

Chins
1/1/1/1
* @#!$!@#!$#@. Dammit. I was doing 3 a little while ago
* The only good news - what was so cool - is the very first one I just picked myself up off the floor. I love that feeling

Forgot to do some push ups but don't really have the energy.

Called it a day at this point. I didn't have much energy - still don't.

Hi Ben. It's good you are back! The strength will come back quickly once you start to train regularly, but, I guess, you know it

Good to see you back, Ben. Sounds like work has been draining. Nice job getting out some reps at 100kg on the squats.

Monday, 05 Oct 09

Over the weekend I pulled out a t-shirt my wife bought me the 2 christmas' ago. I remember it being really baggy, so I never wore it. But now it's a nice fit. Sweet.

Work is a bit quieter at the moment but a new wave of travel looms. Thankfully, it's not that far and won't be for another 2 weeks minimum as I await my new passport.

Squats
5/3/3 @ 100 kg
* My lower back, near my tailbone, has been bothering me recently. The last two sets just didn't feel right. I'm near certain it's related to my hip. I think I'll switch to box squats and do more mobility exercises

Bench
5/3/3 @ 60 kg
* Not a soul around to spot. Last two sets felt really sloppy, sort of lost control on reps so stopped there

Chins
2/2/2/2
* Ah, the one bright spot. The quality of these keeps getting better.
* I've said it many times but I'll say it again - I just love being able to pick myself straight up off the floor. It keeps getting easier.

I was talking with my mate, T (the big guy). He's about my height but 125 kg. He's bulking up to 140 kg and giving himself 3 months. I was talking to him about it as I've been thinking about putting on some weight and hitting the gym hard. We discussed this and he recommended I aim for 15 kg in 3 months; I've been thinking of at least 10 kg. I'll mull it over for now.

KIB wrote:Good to see you back, Ben. Sounds like work has been draining. Nice job getting out some reps at 100kg on the squats.

Cheers mate, glad to be back.

I really look forward to it. In a way, I'm glad I can squat 100 kg right now because that means I can lift more once I get training again.
