I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

It was a very good training session today!

Squat
3x5 @ 100 kg
* Much better today! Form felt really good. Quite pleased with the result

OHP
3x5 @ 42.5 kg
* On the first rep of the second set, the bar smacked my chin on the way up but other then that it was fine. I made sure to explode on the way up, which helped.
* Form on these felt pretty good as well

Deadlift
1x5 @ 120 kg
-/- @ 140 kg
* Pretty good and felt explosive on the way up but I'll try to tape myself, to review form next time.
* With the 140, I could barely get it off the ground. *sigh*

Chins
3/3/3
* Woo hoo! Bring on 4/4/4!

Cheers mate. Now that I feel better, I hope to be spending more time lifting and here again.

Good to see you're still under the bar ;)

Thanks. I'm wait and see about the weight gain. My first priority is to sort out my new routine once my daughter starts school, then just start eating more and lifting heavy.

Big congrats on the pulls/chins from the floor, Bluestreak.
That was hard-fought and well-earned. Don't lose that superpower!

Hmm... harder to find my log, now that my name isn't green ;)

I went in still sore from Wednesday.

Squats
5/5/- @ 105 kg
* I think there were two problems here. First I didn't do my regular mobility routine or quite enough foam rolling. I was still sore in my glutes, hamstrings, etc
* The bigger issue is that if felt heavy and I've got a tendency to want to do it quickly (i.e. sort of drop the weight) instead of bringing it down fully under control.
* End result is that my lower back was really sore on the last set so I stopped. I should go back to box squats for a while

Bench
3x5 @ 60 kg
1x3 @ 70 kg
* My mate was telling me my form is much improved with 60 kg. I can feel it is. Weight feels easier and I don't bounce off my chest or rely on any sort of momentum to get it up/down
* Point is that, even though it's still 60 kg, the quality of that lift is much improved

Chins
3/3/3/4*/5*
* Last two sets I got a wee bit of assistance. Funny thing is that those were the sets where I left feeling really sore in my biceps, forearms, etc. Good stuff
* A while ago, I found these hard on my hands. Not so much anymore

Admittedly, the biggest problem I have is giving up when it starts getting really hard. It's like I can do a few really hard reps or reps when I'm really sore/tired but am not mentally tough enough to push further.

Hey bluestreak. I sometimes have stopped a set when I've reached the specified number of reps, even though I could have done a couple more. I worry that if I do more than the number of reps specified that I will be doing too much, when maybe what I should be doing is go to failure and increase the weight next time? Jesus, almost 12 months in and I'm realising that!

Yeah, you'll need to get that under control, as I am sure you know. Get in a few sets of heavy squats where you have the whole body rock-solid flexed from the start to the end of the rep, then you'll get the "body memory" of what an awesome rep is supposed to be like. Don't knock yourself, but keep in mind that we always come to the iron with a different mindset than the last time. We're just working on improving the average, right?

Hey

I just had a few question for Blue Streak, i am pretty new to this site but I have been reading and researching this for age snow, and I read your entire story, I must say you have to give credit where credit is due, and it was very inspiring:

1) you said t the start you were looking to east a minimum of 300g of protein a day, was that with or without the milk?
2) were you doing cardio during the drinking milk phase at the start as well the 5x5?
3) are you doing cardio now? and if so what cardio and what days etc?

Thanks

with milk

spiffyiffy wrote:2) were you doing cardio during the drinking milk phase at the start as well the 5x5?

no but did some HIIT every now and then

spiffyiffy wrote:3) are you doing cardio now? and if so what cardio and what days etc?

No. I don't do cardio. I find I get a good cardio-like workout just by lifting heavy and with intensity.

I can also regulate bf by controlling how much I eat, intensity, etc. it helps that I eat relatively clean and am not a fan of carb-heavy food (i.e. bread and pasta). But when I'm on a good run of heavy lifts, I just can't eat enough.

End of the day I'm relatively relaxed about what I eat, what I do, etc.
