bodybuilding for more muscle at first?

Postby ken20008 on Wed Nov 19, 2008 2:46 pm

hey guys, i wonder if i should start increasing the rep ranges for all 5x5 main exercises and throwing in some bodybuilding exercises to build up muscle size? after all, we know that more muscle means higher metabolism. a bodybuilding program does that better than a strength training program. can i make a temporary switch for 6 weeks, to build up lots more muscle to accelerate my fat loss?

i think you should stick with 5x5 because it will allow you to build more muscle. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, chin ups etc are all compound exercises which requires use of multiple body parts to perform the lift.
In my opinion, you would have more gains doing 5x5 for 6weeks than you would doing bodybuilding for 6 weeks.
Once you have a good foundation and base with your strength, then you can choose to do bodybuilding routines.

NO I think it is WAY better to have BIG muscles so you look BUFF for all the chicks with out really moving any big weights.......I have heard for really big gains you should do EXTRA things because MORE is always BETTER then LESS!!!......LOL

You asked a forum of people on a program about doing more when the whole concept is to build your foundation first....kind of like building your walls of your house with out laying the floor first....but as long as the house looks good who cares.

Have faith and go against the normal flow of BIG guys in the gym telling you your program is wack with out really giving it your all. 1.5 of you body weight comes quickly and then you could have some strength to play around a little. But you will see after your 6 weeks, tell us how you are doing and what gains you make....and I did not write this to make fun of you, but like I said you asked.

im playing around with curiosity actually. after all i want to see what msuclehack's program can do for me in six weeks. im not looking to much strength increase, haha, just mass (read: size) increase.

Note that im short on time to buff up.....reasons wont be revealed here. :D :D

i would also like to add that i love SL5x5, my strength has increased like nobody's business. I have increased my strength in a month what my friend took a year to achieve. downside is, my body isnt changing. arms are the same, chest is, only legs are getting shredded.

are you eating to get big. All the lifting in the world won't get you big unless you feed the muscles to make them bigger.

What's with the obsession to get jacked, and how do you think a six week program is going to get you these results?

after reading through the stronglifts forums all over again....i guess i will just stick to 5x5. I have gotten 2 other friends into 5x5, so i think i should set the example and wait till i have a 1.5bw squat (that's 116kg) before doing bodybuilding for 4 months, then go to Bill Starr's 5x5 training method.

btw, i restarted 5x5 again after 2 weeks, and absolutely loved it.
