Box Squats / Squat Form check

Postby dan574 on Thu Nov 20, 2008 1:38 am

Im into week 13 of SL and have already went back to an empty bar in week 8 and a 20% deload in week 13 because of bad form in my squat.

Im still not convinced Im doing it right.

Are box squats ok until my form improves?

If box squats are good for beginners why aren't they in SL?

The first video is at 85kg and the second is after a 20% deload, any comments would be appreciated?

You need to sit back more and stop going down with your knees first. You have no hip drive due to this. Sit back into the squat and shove your hips up. You're trying to keep your torso too upright. Bend over.

Looks slightly better. You still have no hip drive. You need to drive hips up out of the hole. Hip drive is enabled by shoving the knees out during the squat and driving the hips straight up out of the hole.

Also, there's no reason, ever, to walk the bar forwards out of the squat rack and backwards in. Especially when you have a nice wall to look at instead of a mirror.

Thanks for that, am I going low enough?

Should I be trying box squats or is this ok?

My main concern is how low Im going.

Depth: first video bad depth, second video good depth.

You can hit good depth. Now you must use hip drive for a strong, safe squat.

I think i have a similar problem, but i thought that bending over too far would be back for my back?

should i be almost leading with my hips?

Nevermind, reading the how to squat article helped.
