I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Knee position depends on length of thigh bone/lower leg/torso, can't really rely on that. As long as you sit back, it's ok. Video would be better of course.
If you want to get good at squats, you'll need to squat. Alternating exercises is not very good at the beginner's stage. Front squat technique is different, and has it's own issues (wrists, breathing, chest up, etc). I'd recommend staying on the squats for now, giving up on them because form is tricky isn't the way to go, just keep doing them you'll improve.

Thanks Mehdi, I will stick with them for now.
I am enjoying the battle with myself on the squat.  Never am I as conscious of the inner dialogue as when I am doing the squat.   There is a little weak gremlin living inside my head.  I have given him notice to quit his abode!!!
With all the other lifts I just do it!!!
Sore shoulders today for the first time.  I think it maybe a combination of being near my max and my tight shoulders.  I am doing the dislocation exercises but still have  some way to go.

I have always felt strong in the legs department from all the football and squash I have played.
