I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

BW OHP?

So, somehow I have gotten this into my head as a goal. Mind you, I am only at 125 lbs, so there is a long way to go.

I am curious - anyone close to this level. BW that is.

I see it is way off most of the charts for all but 'elite' lifters. Is it just a crazy goal?

Any interest in making it a 1x5 challenge? 5x5 might take too long

If I could get my shoulder working well, I'd try it. BW sohp would be a cool thing to try.

I am 187 lbs and I am trying to get 5 X 5 on OHP. I think Bodyweight OHP is going to take some time.

@rbtrout, fkx, (and everyone else) what OHP weight are you currently doing?

I agree, it could well take some time.

rbtrout - those are some serious goals currently. Where are you on those?

I do sohp as an accessory lift, so I very rarely try to go for a PR. Last time I tried (2 years ago?), I hit 225X2 at 235 pounds. I might have made it.

My current PRs (1rm):
Deads are 655. I pulled that last October. I haven't tried for a new PR since.
Squats are 615. I did that about a week and a half ago. I wasn't going to go for a PR, but felt so good when squatting that I had to try. Had I not done 585X3, I'd have had more gas in the tank and might have got 625.
I've got a 4 day fishing trip scheduled the first weekend in April, so I'm thinking that I'll have the week before set for trying for new PRs. My squats have been going better than my deads, but we'll see how things go.

Just gotta watch out for shoulder stress. OHP is hard on the shoulders. And when you get heavy too fast then you risk injury. If your gonna go for BW OHP then I suggest starting in sets of 12 and going down in reps every two weeks untill you can do the 5rep comfortably. This will help strengthen the shoulder and prevent injury at heavier weight.

i weigh 167-170 and i can OHP 155...getting there but it's going to take some more time. i used the stronglifts advanced 5x5 excel spreadsheet with the focus on the OHP and strictly followed it for 12 weeks. after that i progressed to the texas method but only stuck with it for a couple months because i needed some variety from doing the same routine all the time so i switched to a workout that focuses more on the olympic lifts. i figure i'll try it out for a while and see how it goes, i work the push press alot now, it's a fun exercise, great for shoulders and core. it's a good goal, you'll get there if you want it bad enough.

One of my goals this year is bodyweight OHP also. I definitely think it is attainable.

65kg ohp at 73kg body-weight. Been a while that I pressed it with the shoulder injury past summer.

I weigh around 168 and the most I've pressed for 5 is 125, so I have a ways to go, but I'd love to get there.

The thing about a goal of BW OHP is that as your strength increases, your BW usually increases as well...

I've been doing lots of presses with my kettlebell lately and i think it's helping my press strength a lot. I will definitely join in on the quest to a BW press. I weigh 200 lbs roughly, so if i can press a 100 lb kettlebell in each hand i could probably do it.
