I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hello all,

I was wondering if you could help me, my wife had a c-section nearly two years ago and is struggling to do sit ups, could this procedure affect her ability to do so? I've tried to find the answer on the web but no luck.

Thanks

Yoko.

Could be her ab muscles.
If she wants thight abs there are better solution than Situps. Try Squats & Turkish getups.

Situps aren't the best ab exercise you can do anyways.
Try leg raises.

Yoko -
The C Section could absolutely be the cause of difficulty in doing situps depending on how she was opened and what musculature was disturbed and damaged - that of course goes along with the fact that the pregnancy itself could have caused damage to the abdominal muscles - paticularly if she gained alot of wieght with the pregnancy. I strongly suggest she discuss this with her obstetrician - physical therapy may be required.

jdurando is right in that her abdominal muscles could have separated during the pregnancy. Often, physical therapy and sometimes pilates can help to strengthen them. Here's a link you might find helpful about exercise after a c-section:
