I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

They do work really well..especially deadlifts. I cant get too overboard with them because I don't want to strain my back. Sometimes I will have to walk it off and come back cuz my lower back is on fire..not like i'm in pain, but its the kind where you know its being worked out :D

Thats cos you are doing it wrong. You are NOT supposed to use your lower back to move the weight. You are supposed to pull from the glutes. If you try pulling with your lower back, you will end up with a hernia. All the back is supposed to do is stay rigid. Check mehdis article on deadlifting.
Stats:
Olympic Squats - 3 x 5 - 200 lbs
DeadLift - 1 x 5 - 215 lbs
Bench - 3 x 5 - 135 lbs
Rows - 3 x 5 - 125 lbs
Press - 3 x 5 - 95 lbs

Didn't I see the OP post somewhere else that he's doing deadlifts 5x5? He could be doing them with perfect technique and still getting a fatigued or sore lower back from that amount of deadlifting volume. Your spinal errectors play a big role in breaking the bar from the ground. Your back is not dormant in the deadlift. If you are not recovering between deadlifting sessions (measure this by performance, not muscle soreness), then drop a set or two.

I do my deadlifts using correct technique. I started off using lighter weight and added weight as I progressed. I know how much weight I can lift and know what will happen if I execute the motion wrong or an amount of weight that is too much for me. The next day, my lower back doesn't feel sore, but my hamstrings and and the back of my shoulders and back are sore, depending on what variation I did.

My mistake dude. I guess doing 5 x 5 for deadlifts can get your back sore.

I didn't see it anywhere in the thread so I'm not sure if it was mentioned, but you do have some gynecomastia which is one reason you can't get your chest to shrink.. there is no way to get rid of it other then surgery. Its incredibly common, just breast tissue.. I believe 1-3 men have some.. you can also create some over time I believe. There is a lot of information out there on it as well so shouldn't be hard to look into.

When I was younger I was able to control it by exercise...but gradually as I got older I started getting fatter mainly from drinking alot of alcohol and eating unhealthy. I heard its not gyno unless your chest feels sensitive to the touch...but idk, I'm not a doctor. But if the correct diet and proper exercise can subdue it or make them them less look like boobs and more like pecs then I'm happy with that. If not then I'll get surgery. I just wanna see if I can take some of it away by exercise and diet. I've always kind of been skinny fat guy...

Beer contains estrogen. Increase estrogen in a male body equals creation of breast tissue. Drop the beer, and your boobs will shrink if you exercise. I dropped beer completely. I actually dropped alcohol completely. I hate being shit faced, it makes me feel horrible.

I quit drinking earlier this year...you can see the visual effects of alcohol on what it does to your body...i had stopped exercising and let everything go out of control...

I pretty much gave up beer a few months ago. I used to have one a day, with dinner. Now I have maybe one a week, and a lot of weeks none at all. But I can't say as I've seen any difference in my body as a result. I still have pretty much the same amount of belly fat as I had before. Maybe one a day wasn't enough to be a problem in the first place. And I don't have an enormous belly either, just a bit more ab-covering flab than I'd like.
40 yr old male, 6' 172lbs (starting) 175lbs (current).
Goals for June 2010: Squat 200lbs, Bench 150lbs, Press 100lbs.
I don't feel like updating lifts here all the time, so see log below if you care...

In the right light I can see a lil definition of cuts. I know that those abs will see the light of day. Veggies and exercise is my formula. :D

In a nuthshell - Consume 600kcals less every single day. Eat whole foods. No processed, ready made food. That includes sandwiches. If you want to lose it bad, you will make the effort to do so. It's not meant to be easy.
