I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Careers based around strength

Postby TheAugustKid on Wed Mar 04, 2009 8:22 am

I wish I was as passionate about getting a job as I am strength training. But, unfortunately, I am not. It sucks that you can't make much money powerlifting. What other types of careers or ways of making money that deal with being strong.. ex. armwrestling, mma fighting...

strongman competitions, those guys travel the world lifting outrageously large things and get paid. I love it when they're on TV. I think they're all roided but it's so much fun.
Might take you a few weeks to get that strong tho... ;)

Yeah I don't think I can do strongman. Do they even have weight classes for that? I couldn't gain that much weight to be on par with them. I would be a little bowling ball at 5'5''

Yeah they'd probably pick you up and place you on a barrel like an atlas stone!

Scaffolders have to a lot of climbing with heavy gear, its an easy job to get too.

Aby 'rigging' job in general would be good.

I have a mate that works in a hospital, doing security. He mostly deals with people people don't want to be treated (i.e. drunks, people in the psych ward, etc) or where the nurses aren't strong enough to do it themselves.

For example: pinning down someone so he can get a shot, helping to carry/move patients or just standing around, to make staff (especially the nurses) feel more secure. It's a physical job and he enjoys it because he gets to protect and help people.

"Green Power" will be the next bubble:

Wind-power industry seeks trained workforce

The work requires smarts and stamina. It is potentially dangerous. Candidates need good knees, a cool head -- and a stomach for heights.

"I've seen guys just freeze halfway up the tower," said instructor Merritt Mays, a baby-faced former Marine, who at 29 is already a grizzled veteran in this young industry.

For those who can hack it, starting pay ranges from $15 to $20 an hour. Crack technicians can make six figures a year.

pretty much any military combat position will require some level of strength, but endurance is also key.

Get a job on an oil rig - that's hard work and the pay is great, although it's very dangerous.
