I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Chin up bar queries

Postby nburge on Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:28 pm

I'd like to do some chins at home, but my staircase is wooden and is murder on the fingers. I used to have a chin up bar that went between the doorframe at uni, but it was shit. Can anyone recommend a product that works or any other tips/tricks please?

I have this one: http://www.powertrainer.co.uk/

It is nice and easy to put up and down. The rubber bits on the bottom bar which rest on the door frame are not very durable, but other than that it has been a good bar.

A towel draped over one of the steps perhaps ?
Gives a good grip workout too ;)

Cheers guys. I tried gloves  once H, but they didn't really help. The grip certainly gets a going over on my stairs. I'll have a look at the other two and try one out - thanks!

What I meant, drape a towel over the step and grip the hanging ends.
Quite hard ;)

Aha, I see. The staircase wouldn't really allow for that. It's a wooden staircase that runs up a column through the middle of the house. The top floor (one above mine) has a landing which is above me, so it is a right angled piece of wood I have to grip onto, with a slight overhang. I suppose I could put some nails into the floor and drape a towel around that, but the landlord would probably object! ;)

This is what I have and I love it. It does mark the door frame a tiny bit but it's only noticeable if you look closely.

Need some help guys,

I'm thinking of buying a chin/pull up bar but don't want one that damages the door frame. Need to put extra work in on this exercise as I'm pretty useless at it.

I've found the powerbar doorway bar http://www.ukfitnesssupplies.co.uk/Prod ... ductID=929

It seems to have good reviews but needed some other opinions?

Cheers

I have a powerbar, but living in a new build I don't quite trust the strength of plasterboard walls holding my 90kg frame.

To stop it marking, you can put some socks under the bits that dig into the frame.
