I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Gomad is bullshit. the people who endorse this program should be ashamed. you have these kids coming into this forum thinking this is going to be a quick fix to their problem. I find it unconscionable that you have thread after thread of people asking the same questions about this bullshit diet and there are virtually no topics about actually EATING. unbelievable. Unless you want to be bloated all day long and end up with kidney stones, acne, etc...I suggest you avoid this "solution". A gallon of water would benefit you more

you're getting 480% of your daily calcium when you drink a gallon of milk. The recommended daily intake of calcium is about 1000-1300 mg. So if you're drinking a gallon of milk a day that comes to around 5000 mg. An excess of calcium like that can actually result in muscle weakness..constipation, calcium stones, and interfere with the absorption of iron.

All I'm doing is giving you the facts. And btw, milk is not necessarily the best muscle "builder". Milk is about 80% casein protein, which is a protein that keep your muscles from breaking down. Milk has only a minor impact of protein synthesis...

GOMAD is recommended as a temporary supplement to a good, varied, diet and heavy lifting routine. It is not prescribed as a stand alone quick-fix, and I'll agree with you that it never should be. Those that take GOMAD as a quick fix, seem to me to be the ones that will look for a quick fix in anything, whether it is GOMAD or whey protein, creatine, pills and powders...

that's for you to decide. How long you do GOMAD for depends on what your goals are, and how much you rely on GOMAD to help you meet them.

Are you already eating a large amount of good food, and lifting with as much intensity as you can muster? If the answer is yes then GOMAD can help, but if it's no I'd rather see you address the diet and intensity questions first.

I did GOMAD for 2+ months while on SS. I went from 195 lbs to 220 lbs. I got stronger and I also took on some fat. Last couple months I dropped the GOMAD and have been eating healthy...getting lots of protein thru cottage cheese and eggs. Generally keeping the carbs lower, the protein and healthy fats higher. Deliberatly I've shed some lbs (probably mostly fat) and I'm now 210 lbs.......and just as strong as I was at 220 (actually stronger since I've been progressing still on SS).

You need to read up more if you think that GOMAD is some kind of permanent diet. It's a temporary way for novices to gain muscular weight in conjunction with a solid training program. Mark Rippetoe, the strength coach that works specifically with novices recommends this. There is nothing wrong with drinking milk, and it sure as hell doesn't give you kidney stones nor acne. I have done GOMAD and I am neither fat, full of acne or bloated all day.

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/calcium.asp (National Institute of Health)
Calcium and kidney stones
Kidney stones are crystallized deposits of calcium and other minerals in the urinary tract. Calcium oxalate stones are the most common form of kidney stones in the US. High calcium intakes or high calcium absorption were previously thought to contribute to the development of kidney stones. However, more recent studies show that high dietary calcium intakes actually decrease the risk for kidney stones [55-57]. Other factors such as high oxalate intake and reduced fluid consumption appear to be more of a risk factor in the formation of kidney stones than calcium in most individuals [58].
