I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hey, i urgently need some bright ideas to convince my gym manager of getting an olympic barbell TODAY itself. Ermm i have got about 5 hours. Its morning now here, i have to go in the evening,

My gym doesnt have an olympic barbell. Since july last year i have been using a 17kg(supposedly) barbell for the squats in power rack and a 12kg(supposedly) barbell for deadlifts. But today i asked him what the exact weights were and he had no clue.

So really i need to make him see the importance of getting a standard 20kg olympic barbell which can handle heavy loads. What should i tell him?

Tell him that the Olympic barbell is far superior to the standard in every way. Tell him that it's possible that a standard bar could bend (permanently) under heavy load, it's in his best interest to get an Olympic bar for serious lifters to use (saves him money from having to replace bent bars constantly).
Goals:
Squat- 315 lbs 5x5
Deadlift- 400 lbs 1x5 (regular grip)
Press- 205 lbs 1x5
Current (known) 1RM:
Squat: 371 lbs
Clean: 220 lbs

That seems to be a very good reason. I'll try that.
Thanks loves_deadlifts :D

Mention the potential for injury if an inferior barbell was to break.

Yeah i went in the evening to try and talk some sense into him. But he wasnt there! And his cell phone was also switched off! Hmmph! Some owner he is!

Anyway i did get hold of the caretaker and i told him exactly what i needed. That it would be devastating if the barbell were to break and i lift heavy and the weights are only going to go up, so it wold be prudent to get an olympic barbell which weighs betwen 20kg-22kg and is 2m long.

I told him to get the kind of barbell which is used in olympic weightlifting, the heavy and long one(they are BB guys...havent been exposed much to weightlifting stuff..so had to really think up of examples so they could understand what i'm asking for exactly).
I told him to get a barbell(he calls it a rod! Can you believe that? Even i had to make him understand by saying rod rod repeatedly lol) which can handle 200kg.

He seems to have agreed and said he'll get it by 1st week of May. Lets see. I am hoping for the best. Otherwise i am really going to keep pestering them. Or if i were really strong i could simply load up 200kg on that 12kg bar and show them a thing or two!
Another matter that it wouldnt budge at all!
