I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I know that when I drink 8oz of milk, I feel okay, a little gurgling in my stomach here and there. But if I drink anything more at one setting I feel the exact same way you do. I decided i'd try adding 2 litre of milk to my daily diet, and I pretty much pooped the whole day, but I don't feel sick or irritated or anything, I just have a really uneasy stomach. I don't think it's an allergy, just that the body can't digest large quantities of milk. And it's not the fat content that's the problem, the problem is that it's milk. Just for me, I can have 8oz of milk maybe once every 5 hours, and i'm okay, anything more in that length of time, and I get the same symptoms.
I don't know if it's an allergy, or how much discomfort this puts you in, so it could very well be so. But I'm thinking you could just be drinking too much too soon in too short of time. How much do you usually drink a day?
Oh, and my stool would be the same way, very very loose. Pretty much felt like I was dumping nothing but liqud out of me, Was very worried. Very Orange and Brown, didn't look how poop used to look\. Since I stopped drinking so much, it's solid again.
Probiotics help a lot with everything. Good choice.

Soy is unhealthy: estrogen, allergies, etc. Milk: you can have a food allergy to milk. Do you got acne? (can be another sign).
Best is to do the test: remove all milk (including milk products like whey, cheese, etc) from your diet for 2 weeks, see how you feel.

Could I have Developed a Lactose Intolerance?

Postby Rob » Sun Feb 24, 2008 6:40 pm

I am slightly lactose intolerant. I figured it out by keeping a food log and doing some experimenting. Also be on the lookout for things like mozarella cheese, cottage cheese, certain types of spreads, things that you might not thing contain milk but that do, etc. You may find you also have problems with different types of protein poweders/mixes (I use rice protein if I need it). Aged cheeses are prob ok. When in doubt, keep a food log to troubleshoot or do like Mehdi says and drop it to see how you feel. The lactase pills do nothing for me. Lactiad brand milk and cottage cheese are good and taste the same.

I use rice protein and lactaid milk when I think I need the protein and my body has no problem with it. I think 2 scoops w/ 8 oz of milk is 32grams of protein.
The taste is nothing to write home about but with a little creativity I'm sure you could make it interesting. I just chug it to get it over with! :)

I'm lactose intollerant. Learn what foods to avoid (most cheese is OK), and for the others take a lactose pill.
The lactose free milk is doube in price, lactose pills are much cheaper in the long run and don't taste to bad at all.

God help me if this can happen. I drink 24-32oz of milk a day; when I start my new job in a month, and the cash flow is better, I plan to up it to half a gallon daily. I like milk a lot.

Strongerbody:
Ok thanks Rob for that.
Mehdi, I think your asking why am I using quotes from other posters in my replies if this isn't allowed I didntt know.  I did that so the poster knows I am repling to his post.
Guess it isn't necessary sorry if this is the case.
StrongerBody

No,  it's allowed, you just seem to having a hard time using them correctly from the layout, check my quote.

What kind of pills do you use? I've tried a few, and they all gave me problems. If I could find some that worked, it would simplify my life a bit.

I take Lactaid Ultra Chewables..
For "post-workout" shake, I take two. For a big glass of Milk, two.. For most things though, just one.
Handy to keep some in the wifes/girlfriends purse. When you are eating out, take one before dinner.. chefs seem to love using cream, and its a shame to waste an entire meal due to digestive problems.
