I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

could this work?

Postby vypergts on Fri Sep 11, 2009 5:14 pm

Basically I've been scouring the internet looking for something that fits my needs. Ideally I'd like to purchase one rack/stand to allow me to bench, OHP, and squat that isnt too expensive.

Unless I'm reading the descriptions wrong I've yet to find a cage thats tall enough to allow me to OHP inside. I'm only 6'0 but I'm adding on about 3' for my arms and the height of the plates on the bar.

This is the current front runner:

Very simple but I figure I can squat, OHP easily and bench off the safetys?

I'm not a monster and am not worried about my bench being too heavy for the pins (currently 155).

Also keep running across this one:

I cant for the life of me figure out how that bottom bar wouldnt be in the way? Is this a better option?

Thanks!

A cage can still work if you move the hooks for your OHP sets so that they hold the bar outside the cage. Or just don't OHP inside the cage!

I don't really like the separate stands, as it worries me about what would happen if one got knocked over while you had a weight on your back. They'd be fine most of the time, but they are less stable than a connected stand. That second one looks like it is made for benching, since the top end of the bench would fit on the other side of the bar. Something like this would be better.

I agree with lovestolift with the connected stand over the separate stands.
I use connected squat stand and they work perfectly for OHP and squat, never tryed with bench though.
Remember you will have to invest in bumper weights for you to be able to drop the bar in failed attempts.

I dont know if that one you linked to would get low enough for benching. I think I'm set on this one now looks pretty versatile

I played with one of these at Dick's the other day. Having never used a power rack / squat rack before, I still don't like how short the spotter bars are. I'm holding out for a cage, personally.
