I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Just started doing Deadlifts as part of 5x5. I get muscle soreness on my legs mostly (hamstrings and glutes) Is this normal?
I thought it would be mostly on my lower back. I do these in a mirror and my form is ok. Just wondering if i should be feeling anything on my lower back because people often talk about this soreness. I have trained before, mostly upper body and back, and neglected my legs. Could this just be my legs catching up??

Thanks
Andy

Nope hamstrings / glutes is where you should feel it. Hips are prime movers on the deadlifts, if you're feeling it there you're doing them well, congraz.

Yeah mehdi is right if you feel it a lot in your back it means your using too much back. and you should squat done more. Yes you can use some of your back, but to start well you need to start at the bottom of where you squat to. trust me it made a difference.

I had trouble getting 330 with a bit of back and butt.

I went down lower before lifting and 350 popped up easy.

Plus you can't check you're own deadlift form in the mirror.

@Koef - Why cant you check in the mirror? Should my head be down when performing these? When i pull up, i tend to lift my head and have a quick look in the side mirror to check my back isnt rounded

Get your ass down a bit further then - pull from the back when it's about knee level - hey presto.

rotating/hyper-extending/bending your lumbar or cervical spine while loaded is guaranteed way to get an injury.

hmm, i feel it alot in my lower back. Not like pain, but it just feels like somebody is pulling it one way and someone else is pulling it another way.

I can walk fine like 30 mins after my workout though so i dont think im going to hurt myself.
