I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Does anyone else just absolutely love dips?
I'm not sure if it's because I was so bored with push-ups that dips are my favorite thing, but I'm just enamored with them. I definitely enjoy them more than any other body-weight exercise right now.

Same here. I've gone weighted on them now & just love them. I'm pretty sure there are lots of guys like us here.

Amen to that! I've progressed well on these, always feel like I've completely worked my muscles and I'm sure they've helped my OHP and BP. I started preferring Workout B because I loved the DL and OHP, but the dips have definitely made me look forward to Workout A now. If I was really honest, I'd rather dip than bench! :D

I enjoy dips also, same with chins and pullups. I just enjoy controlling my own body weight and moving yourself though space. I just wish i was into my training at a younger age, i would have been much further along by now but oh well:)

Dips also rule because its one of those exercises you can do practicaly anywhere. I used them with pull ups and chins on my last vacation to keep some type of workout going.

I am a fan of dips too. But when going weighted, how fast should you increase the weights? I've read in a couple of training logs on here that adding weight too soon can quickly lead to elbow or shoulder injury. Adding 2,5 kg every workout as long as you can get 3x5 is perhaps too much?

I think that you have to judge this by the speed you can do them. If you're able to do all three sets, but some of the last reps are a real slow grind to lockout taking more than 2 secs to go up, then you're probably not ready to add weight. If your 3rd set is 5 reps at a reasonable pace, then add the weight. Use common sense rather than ego.

I actually enjoy doing dips too. Sure I can't do a lot in a row (maybe 15-20 if I am really fresh and it is the first workout I will do), but at my body weight (298lbs last time I checked), it feels good to know I can do them without assistance.

Dips are the best pushing exercise. I ditched my benches for dips. dips are better than bench press in so many ways. its way more useful to be able to push yourself up through air, they work the upper chest more than bench press which looks bad when lagging, and they work your back muscles much more because your elbows are behind you and squeezed in...the only negative is that bench press is more of a fullbody lift while dips neglect legs. but who ever got big legs from benches?

Dips are the upper body squat, once you can do muscle ups with rings you can do the ultimate upper body exercise.

No better way to finish off a work out. I need to get a weighted belt soon though, I am starting to feel ridiculous walking up to the dip bars with a 60lb dumbbell.
