I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Do you do chins or pulls on SL 5x5?

I purely do chins only.

When I was in high school, my PE teacher only allowed us to do pull-ups for the fitness test. However, army was different. I always found chins easier.

I would have thought you'd do more pullups 22Alpha.
Pullup technique is more suited to the Military.

Mousey, I'm done with my 2 year conscription! =D

Anyway, over here in Singapore, they accept chins and pulls during the army fitness tests.

To be honest, the main reason why I opt for chins is because I want big bicepts but unwilling to pay Mousey for his Soviet Secret Forces' manual.

Pullups still help more with OBUA and the Assault Course though.

Does the program not call for both? Maybe I misunderstood it, but I thought you were supposed to do chins one workout, then pulls the next time workout B comes around. That's the way I do it anyway. Pulls are definitely harder.

I have been doing chins only and can just barely get 2 chins in now on my first set. A major improvement since I started at zero. After those 2 I pull up a chair to rest my legs on (no pushing) and can whip out another 9-12. I'm only a month into SL 5x5 though.

Once I can actually do a few chin ups in a row I'll switch to alternating pull up/chin up as it is laid out.

I do both simply because I feel that chins help my pull ups.

Chins is the most important biceps exercise. You miss that if only doing pullups.

And as we all know biceps is the most important muscle in the body. Never leave the gym without having trained the biceps.
