I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hey everyone,

I'm currently building my home-gym now, I was wondering whether a dodecagon-shaped rubber plate has any advantages compared to the standard rounded ones ? Would be great hearing feedback on these before placing my order as they are reasonably priced. Thanks !

In my experience, non-round plates are actually often very annoying for any lifts where you start from the floor, for example dead lifts or cleans. The reason is that when you lift them, they will often rotate so that one of the vertexes is pointing down. Then when you set the weight down, it will naturally rotate again to rest on one of the flat faces, either moving away from you, or worse, into you. Then you have to setup again to do the next rep, and its annoying. Although my experience was with octagonal plates, I'm sure a 12-gon's would cause similar problems.

Avoid if possible for above mentioned reasons.
Just wondering, typically such plates would be more expensive then regular round ones (at least in my area).
Or is it because they have overstock because nobody buys them and they want to get rid of them ? Tells a lot then, uh ? ;)

Hey thanks for the useful replies,

Good points vhalros, and about the price being cheap I think it makes sense hehe :), I'll check again if they have rounded rubber plates instead.

Is it Bumper plates your looking for or just Iron plates coated in rubber?

I got a set of these Bumpers from Amazon a few months back and they work a treat:

I absolutely HATE the 12 sided plates. They are not just a little annoying but flat out pizz me off when pulling from the floor. I've even tried off seting them a little but after they touch the floor two or three times they are squared again.

If you were doing an abercrombie workout (chest, arms and abs every day) then they would'nt bother you.

The gym I go to only has plates like that.
It's pretty annoying for Deadlifts/BB Rows due to said reason. =/
