I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Good to have you back logging Doo.
Looking forward already to tales of 'backyard strongman' , 'grip strength' and 'rope climbing'

Texas Method - Week 2/Day 1

Postby Doo » Tue May 19, 2009 3:35 pm

Split this over two days (4/26 and 4/27)and threw in Deadlifts. Forget why now but it seemed a good idea at the time. Maybe it was because I missed Day 3 of Week 1. I do recall not feeling right so the lifts were not at all impressive.

4/26/09
  • Bench Press - 5/5/4/4/3 x 215lb
  • Chin-Ups - 7/7/6 X BW

4/27/09
  • Squat (Deep) - 5/4/2/4 x 270.5lb
  • Deadlift - 3x275lb

Texas Method - Week 2/Day 2

Postby Doo » Tue May 19, 2009 3:39 pm

  • Front Squat - 3x175lb/3x175lb/3x181lb
  • Deadlift - 1x345lb
  • Seated Press - 4/3/4 x 125lb
  • Chin-Ups 5xBW

Front Squat seemed light so I increased weight on 3rd set. Still don't like doing these.

Texas Method - Week 3/Day 1

Postby Doo » Tue May 19, 2009 3:45 pm

  • Squat (Deep) - 5x5x275lb PR
  • Bench Press - 5/4/3/3/2 x 218lb
  • Row - skipped
  • Chin-Ups - 3 X BW

Still have some tendonitis in left forearm. It's been a while but it is getting better but it is affecting Chin-ups.

Texas Method - Week 3/Day 2

Postby Doo » Tue May 19, 2009 3:49 pm

  • Squat (Deep) - 2x5x267lb
  • Deadlift - 4x335lb
  • Seated Press - 3x3x127lb
  • Chin-Ups - 9xBW
  • Tricep Pushdowns - 3x8x70lb (no dips as left shoulder seemed problematic)

Gave up on Front Squats and went to Back Squats 2x5 at lower weight as suggested in Rippetoe's Practical Programming.

Texas Method - Week 4/Day 1

Postby Doo » Tue May 19, 2009 3:58 pm

  • Squat (Deep) - 5/5/5/5/4 x 279lb
  • Bench Press - 3/3/4/3/4/3/2/1 x 222lb
  • Row - 3x175lb
  • Chin-ups - 8XBW

After missing 5 reps on all 5 sets of bench press, I decided to finish up with 3 more sets aiming for 8x3. I am going to need to drop my bench weight because I just haven't been hitting it lately.

Texas Method - Week 4/Day 3

Postby Doo » Tue May 19, 2009 4:06 pm

  • Speed Squat - 10x2x275lb
  • Speed Bench Press - 8x3x205lb
  • Speed Row - 8x3x175lb
  • Chin-Ups - 3x4xBW

Incorporate speed sets with bands. For squats, I need to work on getting out of the hole with heavy weights because the bands weren't that bad at nearly the same as previous 5x5 weight.

Texas Method - Week 5/Day 1

Postby Doo » Tue May 19, 2009 4:14 pm

  • Squat (Deep) - 5x5x280lb PR
  • Bench Press - 2x222lb/5x205lb/5x205lb/5x205lb
  • Row - 5x5x177lb

OK. I think my problem with the Bench Press is that I am in a Gyminee challenge to do 5000 push-ups.
I'm dropping back on the bench to 205 and work it back up while I am finishing the challenge. I bet I come out of this stronger than ever in the bench. If not, I had fun doing that many push-ups. I am doing the push-ups 6 days per week.
