I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I have been on Rippetoe's 3x5 program for 6 months now and have made some great gains. Just FYI, I'm still making workout to workout progress, but I think soon I will have to switch to an intermediate program to get enough recovery. I have been bulking the entire time, and I am going to cut the fat off in a couple months. However, I am not sure how cutting affects a progressive program like 5x5 or 3x5. I'm guessing that when I cut my calories, I won't be getting as much recovery as before, and probably will stall on my lifts. So I guess my question is, what does the program look like when cutting? Do you keep lifting the same weight each time you go the gym? Is this enough work to cause fat loss? Or do you need to keep trying to increase the weight?

My lifts are (in lbs)
Squat 350 3x5
Bench 210 3x5
OHP 145 3x5
Row 180 3x5
Deadlift 350 3x5

Height 5'8, Weight 170lbs

The main important thing is to make sure you still get plenty of protein during the cutting phase.
Continue the program as laid out. Maybe you need to add some HIIT or complexes to get additional cardio.
Lifts may stall a bit more then before (but hey, they get heavier too if you still progress !!) but I would not worry too much about it.
