I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

:( :(
This is going to be much harder than I thought.
I smoked a cigarette!
Arrrrgghhh!
Guys, this takes a whole lot more awareness than I imagined.

My gym buddy came to get me to go gym at 3pm. I got into the car and before I knew what was going on, i was halfway done with a cig.
He always keeps a pack in the car for me (He doesnt smoke).
I dont even remember reaching into the glove compartment, pressing the lighter and lighting up.

I feel even worse though that I decided to finish it after I realised I was smoking.

So, now have to start on a new 48hrs from that cockup :(
Jeez!

After 22 years of smoking it's going to be really tough for you to quit Elgon. Never mind just consider it a stall like stronglifts and go for your next set.

hey elgon no problem just stay determined and you'll get there!!

I stopped smoking cold turkey some months ago. First day was easy, second day was hard, third and forth day were super hard, fifth day it got better and then it got better and better. Smell and taste improved, energy levels increased. After two or three weeks it's all out of your brain!! After that it is psychological. Sometimes very rarely I smoke when I'm drunk at a party, guess you remain dumb when drunk ;-)

I quit smoking 9 months ago and could not feel better for it. In the past I had tried to quit a few times with the aid of gum and one of those nicorette inhalators but they never worked. I personally think they never worked because I was never properly broke the nicotine addiction.

This time round I used Hypnosis. I found an app on the iPhone for £5 by Max Kirsten that sounded like a great idea. I believe he also does a CD / Download. For the price of a pack of smokes I thought it was worth a go and I think it really helped.

Now days I cannot stand the smell of smoke, it literally disgusts me and I wonder how I was a smoker for so long.

Anyway, good luck with your decision to stop smoking.

Hmm. Hypnosis. That would be novel for me.

OK, but it sounds as if you might have to quit drinking and accepting lifts.

Yeah, it is not him berating you for hours on end, though if you had the right person talking maybe that would work as well.

You get into a relaxed state and then he basically talks and tries to enforce all of the reasons why you should not be smoking. I found it a very relaxing experience.

Please tell us its now been over 48 hours smoke free! Please, please, please I would love to see that. Reading all this good stuff about being smoke free is starting to remind me that I too can be smoke free if I really want it.

Eagerly awaiting word from our friend Elgon...
He's going to get better results than you. Why? Because you go through the motions of training with all the intensity of a fat guy channell surfing, and He leaves blood on the barbell.

NO SMOKES AND COUNTING!!!

I've been avoiding this log just to make sure I was way past the 48 hrs.
Now I'm not sure how many I've done.
But I feel horrible. :(

I thought guys over here said i'd feel like a new man?
I don't.
I'm irritable, I talk louder cause I think I want to shout and my appetite has gone to the dogs instead of improving.
BUT, I haven't smoked.

Nevertheless, I am honestly hanging by a thread. I've been to the shop to buy cigarettes soo many times its not funny.
So far I haven't. fingers crossed.

And yeah, I had to throw away that TV pack too. That temptation was just too much.

I don't know if it is possible for you, but it would be worthwhile to get your hands on Alan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking book (as recommended by Mehdi). Even though you have already stopped I reckon it would help you look at things in a different way.

I stopped this time with the book and can honestly say that for the first few weeks I didn't have any withdrawal problems or desire to smoke.

There have been a few occaisions since then where the desire to light up has sneaked up on me, but every time I have managed to deal with them.

I have now completed my first seven weeks as a non smoker, and am now sure that I am going to stay a non smoker.
