I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Doing well Elgon.

Hang in there :) I never smoked myself but know plenty of people that did. They said it was HARD to quit but that it was amongst the best things they ever did.
Keep it up.

I thought guys over here said i'd feel like a new man?
I don't.
I'm irritable, I talk louder cause I think I want to shout and my appetite has gone to the dogs instead of improving.
BUT, I haven't smoked.

It takes time. How much effort have you put into SL5x5? How patient did you have to be before you saw definite results? Well, this takes more patience.

Try and keep busy - avoid slack time that leaves you looking for something to do. Smokers get into the habit of dividing up time with cigarettes; it's amazing how much having a cigarette can relieve the tedium of waiting for a friend to turn up, so don't turn up early to meet friends who aren't punctual. Or bring a book. At home, find all those boring things to do that you hate but you know need to be done - newly quit smokers often have amazingly tidy homes.

Smoking doesn't make you feel better, it stops you from feeling shitty - but you only feel crap because you're in withdrawal. Stick it out and you get to feel good without wasting your money and your health. Stick it out and get your taste buds back. Stick it out and recover your sense of smell (and then get a shock when you realise what you've been smelling like to non-smoking friends who were too polite to mention it). Stick it out to discover that beer and coffee taste great on their own. Stick it out because you want to hang on to the gains you're making from SL5x5 - is SL5x5 making you feel better about your body? Well quitting smoking will help you keep that longer.

Oh, and stick it out for all these good people here who are now depending on you as their guiding light ;)

It's very specifically not like that. His premise is that stopping smoking does not require strong wil.

No lectures on the harm that smoking does and how much it costs you either. As he states in the book, if any of these were sufficient to make you stop then you would have stoppped a long time ago.

Itsbruce...
Now I feel like I can actually do this.
Stick it out and recover your sense of smell (and then get a shock when you realise what you've been smelling like to non-smoking friends who were too polite to mention it).

LOL. Though I am sure this is no laughing matter. Funny that I actually hate the smell of cigs. Always have.
Especially when that one gal decided to use the cliche on me: " Its like kissing an ashtray"

Struggling. Stopped counting the hours though. I've lost track!
Have I done a week yet?

Good job on the smoking! It's a much bigger deal than non-smokers can understand. I gave up cold turkey just like you over 10 years ago and haven't gone back once.

I'll tell you that the best for me is being able to run with my son and dog and not feel it in my chest at all. It's nice being able to have my clothes not smell like smoke. It's nice tasting food. It's nice not spending all that money.

Losing track of how long it's been is good because it means it's not on your mind as much anymore. If you were counting the hours then that would be torture. Just forget about smoking and get on with the rest of your life.

It's not hard dude, specially if you have a gym+sport combo going on. Relax... just forget about it. I quit about 5 years ago. Never going back (and that's some money saved right there! haha).

CRASH AND BURN!!!
:(
Now i feel like I let everyone down.
I got some kinda injury and had to lay off gym...
that didn't help with the smoking at all. I hit it back real hard.

Oh well, I start gym again on Monday and will have my 3rd go at quiting.

Just don't give up - you can do this. It's hard, you want to kill everyone in the first few days (I know I did... "stop breathing so loud!") but it gets easier. Hang in there.

Stop curling those cigarettes.
The weigths are too low to have any beneficial effect.

They are not good for anything except for making sure you have less money in your wallet (and the government has more ...)

You can do it.
So do it. NOW !

It seems you're trying to quit using willpower? I tried several times to quit smoking using willpower, and failed every time. I recommend you read allan carr's stop smoking so you change your thinking about smoking.
