I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Elgon quits smoking!

I HAVE QUIT
I've had it.
22 years is long enough and lucky enough messing with my temple.
I am doing it cold turkey.
It will be hard I know so help me God.

I've attempted to quit before with all forms of aid from gum to acupuncture
I've never quit for more than a day and with the gum, nicotine patch shenanigans, I ended up with a triple addiction instead.
This time round, I am sober as I write this and already craving a cigarette.
I hope keeping a log of how I feel will help.

I swear if I can hack 48 hours I will never touch another filthy cigarette!!
And I need to learn that coin tumble on fingers to take care of my smoky fingers.
As for oral fixation, ideas are welcome.
I am not even going to try think of a nicotene replacement. Doesn't work for me!!

Good decision.
Cold turkey is the best way to do.

That's also how I stopped drinking alcohol.
Not that there was a problem. Bought my first car, thought "drinking and driving don't mix" and decided to stop right there and then.

Good luck !
Now get under the bar
(that'll stop the craving for some hours ;) )

Hehe, my gym is tomorrow. Maybe I should postpone until then? hmmm!

I just realised I had so many packs of cigs around the house.
Just trashed them but kept one pack. Opened. Next to the TV.
I know this maybe a bad idea but I think I need it.
I am of the opinion that hiding from them may just be avoidance. I need them staring me right in the face as I fight back.
I do not want to be surprised by a random pack in a shop window.
If I can manage 48 hrs with the pack right here, I will surely succeed.

Good luck elgon!

Brave tactic there with having the open pack staring at you! Just keep calling it your bitch and you'll get through the 48 hours before you realise.

You should read the Allen Carr book that was a time ago on stronglifts. I also quitted smoking "cold turkey" a few weeks ago after I got my diploma and the book really helped me through the rougher times. Ooh and don't use replacements. Try to think of the real reason why you smoke. If it is because your bored just find something to do, when you have stress just try to relieve it on another way.

Go for it! I quit smoking, cold turkey, 11 years ago. One of the best things I ever did. One problem I did have, though, was that I started eating more as a way of compensating. But then that's good for you ;) As I recall, you're finding it a challenge to eat enough for SL5x5. So every time you feel the need for a cigarette, eat a walnut!

I remember reading a post by you defending your smoking habit just a few days ago. good to see that you're trying to change!

any particular reason, or just a personal "I can beat that demon"-challenge?

Pretty simple really Helm.
The most adamant defenders of the habit are usually very aware of why they need to quit and are just trying to brush away their worries.
I know very clearly what I was doing to myself ( I like that. WAS :)
My reason though mainly is that I've been doing stronglifts for nearly exactly a month, squatting 50Kg more than i could (body weight) when i 1st walked into the gym.
Previously, I did'nt even know I could gain mass of any kind.

I can gain mass and get stronger? I can quit sucking on a smoking fag!
what better time to pick up a good habit (not smoking) than on this important 1 month anniversary for me.

Hehe.
I am soo hoping all those blowing up rumors (or fact) I've heard about quiting are true!
A little more appetite is a definite boon if it does come.

9 hours already done!!!!
Usually by now I'd have smoked 9 cigs!!
I know I am consciously counting but what the heck!

Good luck - don't focus too much on the cigarettes, they have no real power over you. Just live life like you've never smoked :)
