I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Maybe someday.

Yeah, me too. Took classes in programming C++, VB and web design. Now what do I do? Play with servers and IIS configs. Can't even subnet in my head anymore.

There's an apparent shortage of engineers in different fields over here. Maybe some of you guys could come over! :P

I'm an Electronic technologist. Not quite an engineer but more then a technician. I promptly forgot everything I learned once I graduated  Actually, my 3rd year project got my first software development job. I've also got half my software engineering degree (no intention of finishing it).

I've always known I wanted to go into IT. There were PCs in my parents house as early as I can remember. I was also into Lego as a kid. I love to build things.

I've been lucky to have the opportunity to do a bit of everything in IT - from 1st level support all the way through to management. I'm a generalist, which suits me well being in a 4 person company.

Back in Canada, I knew an awful lot of engineers (primarily mechanical, electrical and aviation) that ended up as software developers. Some say they couldn't find work in their field, others say that sw developers were just more in demand and the pay was better.

Alright, I was wondering if there were other math and applied physics ppl here - I know I know, it's geek talk :D-
Currently an engineer in the making. 3rd year civil engineering student.
Ever since I was a kid, I'm talking 6 maybe 7, always loved to ruin things and see how they function from the inside. Since then, I've been fascinated by computers, mechanical things, buildings and structures, forces, and all my old pc games were construction games and I've had a bunch of lego and k'nex sets. Absolutely love it. Oh, and I love cars too :P.
Lucky for me I turned out to be good at math and physics and here I am still doing that, don't' know where it'll take me but I'm hoping something like the 2nd upload. (see bottom)

Heh, I'm not an engineer, but a Physicist, about to finish my Ph.D. Though I'm not planning on being a Physicist afterward--Maybe it will be something like Engineer! Gotta get it together, soon, though, either way :)

Yup. I'm a Computer Engineer working as a Hardware Designer.

I loved playing with Lego as a kid. Built a lot of plastic car models also.

Spent a lot of time troubleshooting and MacGyvering stuff together on the farm. That was the best preparation for Engineering ever!

Yeah, ewerbos, PhD in physics is really really impressive. I would have loved to do that.

BTW, I am a mechanical engineer, currently designing air pollution control systems. Fond of designing equipment & machines. Also like to fix things, got a certain knack about it.

Nice to learn about all you geeks - quite a variety.

bigwhat, you worked for NASA, that's great.

overdrive, if you're into cars & metals, you can always use your engineering, in whatever small way.

Variations of a theme here. Analytical Chemist here.

Ewerbos - great to see you really getting into lifting and being in the hard science area. I work with WAY too many that are sharp as a tack, but leave their bodies to wither. Keep it up!
