I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I'm actually thinking of changing over. Now I'm doing mainly 'management' engineering: resource planning, cost analysis, cost calculations.... I'm rather bored with it, eventhough those are skills you'd need as an engineer. I'm thinking of changing to 'real' engineering like construction or mechanical.

Computer Engineer here.

I did my B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science, then switched over to Computer Engineering for my doctorate. Now I do design and validation work for a major microprocessor manufacturer, currently working on the next generation of USB.

I'm an industrial engineer by education. Worked for a time as a Plant Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer. Currently I'm a Six Sigma Black Belt, focusing on manufacturing/operations type projects.

The Engineer in me pretty much requires that I keep a detailed training log.

I'll be entering my final year at uni doing a Software Engineering degree. I spent a year doing an industrial placement and I absolutely loved it!

Nice to see some fellow geeks around 8-)

I'm a civil engineer. I passed my EIT about 2 years ago and should be able to take my PE here in another couple of years. I worked construction most of my life with the family company and I was always pretty good in math and science in high school. So civil seemed to fit me. I work for a Structural company mainly working in Steel Mills, so its more of the structural side than civil.

My job title is Telecommunications Engineer, but I'm really just a technician. Australia doesn't have any rules to say Engineer = BEng, so the term gets thrown around loosely (i.e People who have done CCNA call themselves "Network Engineers".

But I'm a first year Electrical Engineering student as well. Part time it will take another 7 years before I graduate :(.

It makes strength training a lot more interesting because you can understand the mechanics/stresses/strains that the body goes under during the lifts :)

Nice! You got a job for me?? :)

I'm a 2nd year civil engineering student. I love structural engineering and hope to specialize in it.
My worst fear is that one day I will meet a person I could have been.

What's the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers?
Mechanical Engineers build bombs. Civil Engineers build targets.

A.S. in Electronics, half a B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering. Dropped out when my girlfriend got pregnant and needed a ring and a house. Got the ring, the house, and a couple of kids. Just recently went back to school to finish after a 20 year break. Know what? It's a blast to be in class with kids 20 - 30 years younger than me. They are unbelievably mentally quick in solving problems and it really puts me on my game to keep up with them.

The passage of time also offers the benefit of perspective. I hear kids say, after blowing a quiz, that they're no good at engineering and should probably switch to business school. I tell them, "Dude, that quiz is meaningless. You're going to experience much bigger fails in an engineering career, even when you do your job perfectly"

well said TakeFive. i too was thinking about switching to something else but then realized engineering is special and people look at you differently then when you say "ya, i have a business degree".

Does that make me crazy for contemplating a commerical role after almost 10 years working as an engineer? ;)
