I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Fat loss and 5x5

I starting out on the 5x5 and my primary goal is fat loss (Getting strong is very close second).

In the past I did only eating reduction and no exercise so I got "skinny fat".
I still have what I consider a very large middle and a bunch of flab in the thighs.

I know I will gain muscle and lose some fat on 5x5 but I have noticed that some people complain about getting strong but not losing their belly fat. I would really like to worry about this now rather than later so I can get on the path to losing my belly.

I am 31, ~94.4 kg and 189.5 cm.
I am basically a cylinder my hips, chest and waist are all 101cm.
I don't have calipers but my electronic body fat tester thingy says I am ~23.3%
(it said I was ~27 about a month ago but since I have only done 2 weeks of 5x5 I am not sure if it is a computer glitch or if I actually already lost 3.7% body fat. my guess is the former)

So suggestions would be helpful.
Should I add cardio to the 5x5? if so when is best? also how much?
Is there a common consensus on which types of cardio are most beneficial in this area?
Where is a good place to figure out roughly how much I should be eating in a day?

Track your calories well. At your current weight, you don't ned to lose weight, so eat at maintenance levels using Cunningham equation, but limit your carbs.

The 8 nutrition rules article by Mehdi is a great cue.

Adding cardio will help fat loss, but I would keep it steady state so it does not interfer much with your recovery.

Ok it looks like by that equation I need 3200 calories on 3600 off.

Seems like a lot but so far everything else medhi has said has worked amazingly well and surprisingly quickly so I'm on it!

Thanks for the info guru you have been most helpful!
