I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Fat Loss

Postby rizon on Mon Nov 02, 2009 12:46 am

Hello Everyone,
I've been lifting for about a year and I am currently into my second cycle on Rippetoe's Starting Strength. I used to be 320 lbs but I lost a lot of weight to join the Marine Corps. Now I try to keep my diet clean, but I don't have the money to buy my own food and eat as best I can at the chow hall. But I need a way to burn the fat off faster on my off-days. I do Rippetoe's every Mon., Wed., and Fri., but I need to get the fat off quicker, and I wasn't sure if running on Tues., Thurs., Sat., and Sun. would be better or some sort of interval or circuit training. If interval or circuit training, does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for the help.

Chow hall food is killer. Diet is the most important part of fat loss. If you can stick as much as possible to the meat and veggies and stay away from the starches. Is your chow hall civilian run? Do you have a choice of salads at all? Are you deployed now?

You could certainly do some extra running. I would do sprints on your work days (that leaves your off days for recovery). Do you do PT also?

So many questions.

Yes, our chow hall is civilian run, and we do have a choice of salads with cheese, ham, etc. I stay away from all of the pasta and try to stick to just the meat and veggies that they serve, but there are a lot of times where the meat is fried as well, and if that's the only protein that they have then I get it anyway, not sure how good that is. We do usually have PT, but there are so many people that I work with who are deployed, there aren't very many people in the shop, so most of the days we have to stay and not PT because we always have to have some people in the shop just in case. I was thinking about on my off days running to the football field on base, and doing sprints on there until I die, and doing burpees again until I die again, ha.

I stick to just burger patties and broccoli for almost all meals, sometimes roast beef if there serving it. As for breakfast its always hard boiled eggs. Not a lot off choice when you abstain from starches.
