I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Well, I'm off heavy lifting for a while but I might as well post my cardio endeavors just to keep my hand in:
Monday:
Afternoon: Muay Thai
Evening: Soccer (40 minutes)
Tuesday:
Evening: 3 mile jog
Wednesday:
Morning: Tabata Cycling (2 rounds) and Tabata front squats (1 round)
Evening: Muay Thai

I wanted to do 2 rounds of cycling and 2 rounds of the front squats but I was wrecked after the squats. Will improve next time.

About 2.5 mile jog last night, very short and very slow.

Heavy bag training and (hopefully) a round (or two) of tabata front squats this evening.

How's your shoulder feeling now? Have you started on the exercises to strengthen yet? My right shoulder can play up from time to time but it does not seem to be painful when benching at the moment which is nice.

Havent been around in a while... sorry about the shoulder thing... Eric Cressy's got a bunch of stuff on shoulder health over on tnation and his site... might be worth a look...

Squats are impressive... interesting that you squat more than u deadlift.

Thanks for stopping by guys!
Caphel: Shoulder improving, i'm still just doing the flexibility stuff right now, figure I'll give that a full week.
FGNM: I was doing some of the Cressey articles and will probably start up again next week. A lot of the exercises given to me by my dr. are quite similar to those he recommends. Hopefully I'll be fully back in the gym by next wednesday.
I could probably DL more, but I sped up my squat increases in the beginning b/c it felt good and slowed down my DL increases b/c i wasn't comfortable with the form. I could probably DL more, but I'm not in any rush (or I won't be once I get back to it).

Probably only of interest to maroon (if he's still reading), but i had an awesome MT session last night. I've been in my school for about 2 months after boxing for about 3 months, so i'm still pretty new. But I'd been frustrated lately that I wasn't improving as much as I'd hoped.

Yesterday we went in and there was a brand new guy who i matched up with for partner drills. It was great to see him hit the pads and realize how far I'd come (not that he was bad). I was able to see some of his errors, and even the instructor would ask him to watch the way I did some things to help him out. We then moved on to sparring rounds:
R1) I was matched up with a guy who's been there longer but on a similar level, went ok.
R2) Was matched up with a guy i'd never met before but who was ridiculously good. I'd seen in the partner drills how far i'd come, sparring with this guy showed me how tremendously far i have to go.
R2) Matched up with a guy who was making me look stupid a few weeks back, today I was able to find some openings on him and defend a lot more succesfully, ended the class on a high note!

Today I learned that 3 weeks out of the gym is far too long! My shoulder is finally getting back to normal so I got back under the bar today.
I warmed up on squats and my final warmup set was 5x185. I tried to jump to the weight i was squatting last time, 225, and got out 2 reps before a major failure. I dropped the weight down and did two more sets at 185.

Squats: 3x5 @ 185lbs
DL: 1x5 @ 225lbs
Chinups: 3x4
Prone Bridge: 3x60s

Skipped the OHP to rest my shoulder. Mostly was just trying to work myself into the groove today and not push too hard. I think I may switch to 3x5 for my exercises soon though just in the interest of time. Great to be back in the gym though. I'm going to add 10lbs per workout on the squat until i get back to 225, hopefully I can maintain that pass for a few workouts.

Today's workout: Still warming up to being back in the gym. I think even more than losing strength, i've lost form and flexibility in my squats which is making it difficult to put the weight up. I'll keep working on it.

Squats: 5x5 @ 195LBS
Pushups: close "grip" 3x12
IR: 3x10
Inv. Crunch: 3x15

I'm still off the bench. Working back into the upper body movements though with the pushups. I kept my hands very narrow today and didn't push the reps too much just to take stress off the shoulder. Felt good today, so we'll see where we go from here. I've been doing mobility and band exercises for the shoulder, next week I plan to get back on the Cressey routine.

Don't worry too much, you will get it back before you know it. Do shoulder dislocations each morning/evening perhaps as well as a squat stretch and your mobility for the squats will be fine in no time at all :D

Thanks Leon! I'm getting there. Shoulder's still giving me problems, but i figure at least i can do the things that don't irritate it. The doc said it'd take about 6 weeks to heal, so i'm still 3 weeks away from that.
Anyway, today's workout:

Squats: 5x5 @ 205lbs -still some form issues here but i'm slowly ironing them out. I think i'm done w/ the 10lb jumps so i can work on that.
DL: 1x5 @ 235lbs - heaviest thing i've ever lifted, woohoo!
Chinups: 3x4 - pullups kind of aggravate my shoudler, so i'm sticking w/ chins for now
Prone Bridge: 3x60s

Still avoiding bench and OHP, I tacked on the Cressey shoulder strengthening routine at the end.
