I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

one more thing guys ... the guy who did my assessment (aka sport fitness physician) in the gym was using a skin fold caliper which looks like this

perhaps not the most advanced gadget out there, but should serve well for a while.
i told him i was interested in purchasing one. he tells me that he gets them from chennai and are not expensive.
dont know exact price details and contact details of seller, but will find out within the next week. if interested let me know

Looks similar to the Accumeasure ones. A bit too late for me though. My brother is coming back from UK next month (for Ganpati utsav) & I've asked him to get me the calipers & chalk.

The one they use at my gym are a bit more sophisticated, with a dial gauge & all.

Hey Guys, there's a new competition being thought of - Stronglifts Olympics.

Have a look at it. India is covered under Asia. Since the end date is Dec. 2009, I think we should all team up. What do you guys think?

And people are cheating by doing 1 Rm numbers  ..it should be standardized first of all....i can never do a 1RM for a squat/bench due to safety issues

haha ... i agree, am glad ur are in too. great numbers on the lifts btw

Nilan666 wrote:And people are cheating by doing 1 Rm numbers ..it should be standardized first of all....i can never do a 1RM for a squat/bench due to safety issues

huh ... i thought 1rm is allowed.
far as standardization goes i think it is about doing the lift with good form with the max you can lift within what one considers their saftey zone, which could be a 1rm or 3rm or 5x5rm. it seems like a fair enough rule.
guess we have to wait and see how things shape up on the competition, new requirements may be added. Maybe they might suggest everyone to post a vid of them lifting the weight so that the judges/moderators can verfiy the weight lifted and judge/rate technical aspects of the lift. ah well i am just blabbering here and going off in a tangent, keeping it short and simple may be the best way.

Thanks Anand..but aye i've been stuck at these numbers for ages!

no i know 1RM is allowed...basically whatever maximum one has lifted is allowed....thing is what about those who cannot perform 1RM attempts? My power rack is such that i have no way to bail out.
And 1RM numbers are "significantly" higher than 3x5 stats...yea those are my 3x5 stats.

hey guys, thanks for putting your names in for the comp.

Nilan, I think you have valid concerns, but the approach being taken is for simplicity's sake. There's a few of us using 5rm or similar, myself included. I think it would be tough to make things completely fair, which is why I keep saying that it's more for fun than a serious competition. Also, the details still have to be ironed out, and may not be settled on until the end of the year. Feel free to make any suggestions in the thread.

aye mjh....just voicing my thoughts

I think there will always be two camps about this. One for 1rm/5rm attempts and others who stick to 3x5/5x5.
Rightly said about it being for fun basically but i ain't surprised that even here asia is at the bottom. Damn where are the chinese when we need 'em? Really...1/6th of the world's population...

Is anyone fasting in Ramadhan?

This should prove to be interesting! I know the fattening desi food will be on the menu as per usual!

Hey Guys, ( I guess that means Nilan & Guru as almost all the other guys have vanished :( )

Last week I got Sundrop Peanut Butter and really liked it so thought of sharing with you all. Two spoons are equal to 10 g of Protein. Taste wise I would have loved it bit sweeter. But I guess it's good.

I don't if any other brands of PB are available. What is your experience?

Peanut butter is great. We have a jar at home, which is favourite of the kids. I too have a jab at it now & then. It's not Sundrop make though. I can't remember the brand name just now.

BTW, just yesterday I was thinking about this thread & it's premature death. Thanks Shree for keeping it alive. Any luck with the Venky's albumen powder?

I failed to locate either chalk or calipers here. So when my brother was due from UK in August, asked him to bring along. So now I have the Accumeasure calipers & a little amount of chalk powder. It cam just in time for my 1RM tests & thanks to it, I could lift 110 kg.

edit - Remembered the brand - I think it's FUNFOOD.
