I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. :lol: But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I'm so fucking frustrated!! I go the 24 hour fitness gym and unfortunately so do four fucking douchebags from my old high school. They spotted me doing squats and least to say i can hear them laughing from all the way across the workout floor. I don't think its so much that I'm still on light weights but the fact that I'm even trying to work out. I was the super scrawny kid last time they saw me. Whenever they walk by they either say shit about my lack of strength or the fact that i'm still a "punk ass beaner".

Regularly, I'd be like screw this shit and settle it caveman style but these guys are freakin huge, like road rage football player huge. Whether they have the strength to back up their looks I don't know but still, they're intimidating.

Keep doing what you're doing. So long as they're not interfering with your lifting, let them talk. I was 180 lbs at 6'5" when I started in my gym (frequented by pro rugby players) so I know what you mean about it being intimidating. Thankfully, a lot of the people at the gym are actually really nice if you get to know them.

After a while, once you're lifting say 1x BW for squat or deadlift, odds are they will either grow tired of trying to put you down (don't react to it - it's what they want!), will start respecting you or will just leave you alone.

You could put a complaint in about them to the management. They'll either completely ignore it or throw them out. You pay to go there and you shouldn't be getting shit from other customers, they should deal with it.

Ignore them and get your numbers up.
They'll notice after a while ...

Happened to me last week. A typical BB-guy came to me to compliment me on my squat saying he would never be able to do it that way (deep) with that weight (112.5kg).

Befriend them! You may realize they are interesting people. They may start respecting you. Take their shit and turn it around. Continuing doing good on the bar. Treat them nicely and laugh things off. Make a joke of it all.

You are scared to settle it caveman style if you might get hurt because they are to big.
You come on the forum and act all hard because you can't stand up for yourself in real life.

I'd have to agree with them.

Get some balls and open your mouth.


Or just have the posters here stroke you some more so you feel all warm inside.
How do I listen to my body..I fuel it, rest it, prevent it from injury. Then I could care less what it has to say.

You've got to use that rage man, it's the best motivation you'll ever get. Hate might not be the most healthy thing to let drive you, but god damn does it work. Think what it's going to be like when they see you in a year and you're both bigger and stronger than them, if that doesn't make you want to squat and eat, I don't know what will.

Try going at a different time....

if that is not feasible...pick an exercise that they may not be good at (i will guess they suck at chins), and get good at them. Then make sure you crank out 10 reps when they are busy on the lat pulldown.

This is a quick way to get your ass pummeled. It just makes you look like a jackass in the gym and could get you kicked out.

This is what separates the men from the boys.

Oh god, you sound exactly like one of my elementary school teachers. Let me guess, "bullies can't chase you if you don't run" and "the quickest way to get rid of an enemy is to make him your friend"? It doesn't work that way.

Muerte, you're probably just going to have to ignore them, or just tell them to fuck off if they're actively harassing you. You could probably get them kicked out of the gym if you can get them to call you a beaner within earshot of another person, 24 hour fitness is a big corporate gym, and places like that are usually pretty sensitive to racial stuff.
