I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Is it that bad to use gloves while training? I am a guitar player and my hands are the most improtant thing to me. I can't have skin hanging off them, as it will tear.

Gloves

Gloves add inches to the bar, making it harder to grip and messing with technique.

Gloves

Does'nt the increased thickness caused by the gloves make me squeeze the bar harder, and thus strengthen my grip?
I've heard of people who wrap a towel around Barbells and Pullup bars for grip strength.

the gloves are attached to you, so it doesn't work in the same way as the towel..
if you grip the bar properly then your hands will be fine. plus gloves look horrible.

Yes, but that is for specific gip training.

Gloves

Lots of people in my gym use either gloves, or are wrapping 15x30cm squares of eggshell foam around their grip points on the bars. Maybe this is just a German thing. I'm not really used to seein people use gloves at my gym back in the US, but here it is very common.

Then again I also see Germans wearing tight jeans in the weight room, so maybe Germans are just weird :)

Gloves

I'm a guitar player and have been doing Stronglifts 5x5 for over two months with no problem.
Make sure you're gripping the bar right with each exercise and if you ever get a bad blister, wear a glove until it heals up.

i play guitar too, unless you grip the bar incorrectly you will be fine without gloves - calluses have their benefits

i don't see how your skin will tear though, unless somehow you play guitar with your palm?

Learn from my stupid horrible mistake, ditch the gloves ASAP.
