    I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. :lol: But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

GOMAD issues - Chest Pains

Hey guys,

I am on my fifth day of the GOMAD diet. Drinking a gallon of milk is a lot easier than I thought it would be, I just have to remember to be consistent. I am also lactose intolerant, so I always remember to take a pill (or two) before I drink a glass and it's no issue. Also, there is the matter of having ruffage with the food, drinking mostly milk and eating chicken all day has left me constipated a bit, I rectified that by adding bananas throughout my day.

My main issue now is that I am getting chest pains every so often. The first came on Tuesday, and just a few minutes ago I started getting chest pains. These don't feel too good, and I am starting to get worried. Any idea what might be the problem here? I just had a doctors checkup, and my health is fine, so I don't, well at least I hope, it's not my heart. Could it just be indigestion.

I would think that it is indigestion, as it is too soon for anything else to have popped up. Get some antacid and eat a lot of vegetables to balance out the acid load (most foods are very acidic, which is one of the reasons you need to eat veggies).

This is going to be all kinds of popular here...

Will GOMAD put the weight on you? Yes.

Will you jeopardize your health if you drink milk long term? Lot of physicians and research groups NOT connected with the multi-billion dollar dairy industry say, yes.

Do a thorough search and make an informed decision beyond this board. Getting strong is great, doing somehing unhealthy is counter-productive.

Btw, I'm not a vegetarian or vegan. I eat beef, lamb, chicken, fish (but no pork as I'm not real big on parasites that aren't killed even by cooking). But the fact of the matter is simply that you need to eat the right amount of right food...regardless of what that right food is. There is nothing wrong with eating healthy with an occassional cheat meal for incentive. Twenty-five pounds in twenty-five days? How much of that is good healthy lean muscle mass and how much is going to be unwanted, unhealthy fat?

And for the vegetarian, two examples of getting big just eating greens...cows and Bill Pearl :mrgreen:

Five days is hardly long term. I don't think that someone needs to drink milk for life, but it is not going to kill you to drink it for a month or two to achieve a goal. Your assertion that it is unhealthy may be sound, but your definition of long term is a bit dubious.

It was not my intention to imply that five days equals long term use, my apologies if it came across this way. But there is some erroneous information with the GOMAD diet. For example;

Is GOMAD Safe? Yes. Or we wouldn’t feed babies milk.

Lot of physicians indicate a whole host of ailments associated with infant consumption of cow's milk. Goat's milk is the closest to mothers milk, not cow.

Also the notion that the calcium in processed cow's milk builds the bones. The calcium in cow's milk is far too course for the human body to recognize or assimilate. Think of it this way; what country consumes the most cow's milk per capitia? The U.S. Now, what country has the highest rate of osteoperosis? The U.S.

I don't have stock in the dairy, beef or the carrot industry :mrgreen:

GOMAD is not the best strategy and doesn't trump good ole fashion hard work and a healthy diet. Seems futile to me to gain unwanted weight and then just have to work that much harder to shed it. But understand where I'm coming from here; I started out as a weight lifter and gained 40 pounds the right way over a period of time as well as strength without the pudge. Now I've switched over to body building and plan on competing next year in a natural competition. So I see GOMAD and other 'gain weight fast' fads for weight lifting the same way I see steriods in body building...a cheat for people that don't want to do it the right way the first time.

As always YMMV :)
