I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hi all,

As I personally think that reader's stories containing experiments with any of the program's/ideas recommended on this site (anabolic diet, GOMAD, various training programs) are very interesting and useful threads, I thought I should contribute by sharing my experience with doing GOMAD.

How much did you weigh before doing GOMAD?
96kgs or 212lbs

How how much weight did you gain doing GOMAD?
8kgs or 18lbs

How long did you do GOMAD?
4 weeks (beginning October to now)

How much did you squat/bench/deadlift before & after GOMAD?
squat: from 60kgs to 75kgs
bench: from 60kgs to 65kgs
deadlift: from 75 kgs to 105kgs
press: from 45kgs to 47.5kgs

Physical changes?
These are based on what I see in the mirror and how my clothes feel so they are not entirely accurate...
-Increased midsection or bellyfat
-bigger arms
-bigger legs

Some stuff I want to add:
First, I decided to not be a whimp and immediately drink 4 liters a day. I figured since I was already a tall guy, I could handle it. I have to say that it was hard and it might have been better to ease in it more slowly. It does get easier to drink the milk after a while.
Second, do not drink the last batch of milk too late. Many days I woke up in the middle of the night because I had to pee.
Third, this has been mentioned a lot, NEVER drink the milk before you eat. This will cause you to be full and remove some of the benefits.
Fourth, I would suggest only doing GOMAD if you're stuck on the weights or skinny. Be aware that you will gain some fat, especially in your midsection. The benefits are there; I was stuck on the bench and the press and I have increased both!
Fifth, it feels like GOMAD and heavy compounds is the best marriage. I would definitely consider doing GOMAD if doing a routine like Smolov or Korte's 3x3!

Why I stopped?
To be honest, being an avid coffee drinker does not mix well with GOMAD. I had to pee many times during the day and the night. Combine that with the added bodyfat (not a big fan  ), and you have my reason for stopping for now. I will first trim the fat before I start doing GOMAD again but I will definitely do it again at some point in time!

Picture proof?
I made a 'before picture' but no 'after picture' yet. I'm saving this for my general update after 13 weeks of stronglifts.

Well done it seems you made some good improvements on you lifts whilst doing GOMAD!

Thanks for sharing because it's stories like this that really encourage people who are considering starting on GOMAD (like myself) to follow it through because it's proof that it actually works. Not sure if I could handle a full gallon a day though! Seems like so much milk! I probably do about half a gallon at the moment so maybe I should just increase it gradually.

Dood, some good skills jumping straight in at 8 pints of milk a day. I’m finding it really hard to get it down without making my self feel sick. I just don’t think my stomach is no where near big enough yet. Im on the third day and Im finding it hard.

1st day = 4 pints (half gallon)
2nd day = 5 pints
Today = hoping for 6 pints but only managed 3 so far and its about half way through the day.

How are you taking your milk? A pint every hour or 2 pints at once etc…??

Hi Deland01,

My schedule was something like this:
-wake up at 5.45 AM and drink first liter (2pints) at 6.30 AM
-next liter at 11.30 AM, during my bread
-then one liter as I was driving home at 5.00 PM
-final one was around 8.00 PM

However, this is no optimal schedule. Sometimes I felt a bit nauscious because of drinking too much milk. And, as said, I often had to pee in the middle of the night. Thinking back, I would vote for drinking 8x0.5liter instead of 4x1liter... I do think that because of my height and weight (see sig.) it was easier to do GOMAD than it is for someone much shorter/lighter.
